There haven't been many full-on "old-fashioned" Nintendo Direct broadcasts in 2014, as the company has focused on game-specific presentations and an alternative Digital Event approach at E3. While variety is welcome, there was something reassuring about a live video featuring Satoru Iwata in front of a white backdrop; the Nintendo President looked well on his return, though as he himself stated has lost weight while recovering from surgery. He was back, though, taking us around the regions and saving the mightiest reveals for himself.
This presentation certainly started with a bang, delivering an announcement that had been in demand for what seemed like an eternity — The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D will come to the 3DS in Spring 2015. While it had always seemed an inevitability, the consistent teases and missed reveal opportunities had caused some doubt; it looks to be carrying on the good work of the fabulous Ocarina of Time remaster, too.
There was more than just Majora's Mask, however. Some demos arrived — though not the one we really wanted — while there were fresh details on established games; in addition a couple of release dates were given that, in fairness to Nintendo, were sooner than we anticipated.
As it can be tough to follow everything that happens in these broadcasts, we thought we'd provide — as is now tradition — a handy summary of links to the various articles we've produced from the Direct festivities. These aren't everything from the presentations — we recommend checking out the new Xenoblade Chronicles X footage near the end of each broadcast, for example — as in each region there were brief segments simply reiterating previously-known release dates and details.
Let's get on with it, shall we?

Xenoblade was a real delight to look at.
Not the best Direct ever, but definetly not the worst.
Majora's Mask alone made this direct the best for everyone!
Hype levels for 2015 intensified. Getting that special look at Splatoon was amazing, and seeing that it does in fact have single-player mode was great!
This Nintendo Direct didn't really excite me at all.
i was actually pretty dissapointed. there was a serous lack of 3ds coverage, and worse there was absolutely nothing about the new 3ds and the QOL platform. and no pokemon? lame.
I thought it was solid. I never played Majora's Mask for whatever reason, so I'm happy that they are re-releasing it. I was hoping for the Yoshi Wooly release date. The realist in me did not expect Zelda U or Star Fox U. The more I see on Xenoblade the more I am interested.
Majora's Mask 3D, Project S.T.E.A.M. and Xenoblade Chronicles X...........ahdhjfjcvshsjskskfjcnjxkxnsnxjzn!!!!!!!!!!!
I was kind of disappointed as usual. It's great to see that Majora's Mask is finally coming to 3DS! However Nintendo failed to state any release dates for games coming early next year. Is there anything coming to NA in Q1 of 2015? Also I think a Smash demo would have been great and it would increase the hype even more for Super Smash Bros. and Wii U. That was definitely a missed opportunity. Seeing all of the Amiibo features was great however I wish that there were more features than just costumes for Mario Kart 8. Seems like X is coming along slowly and nothing new was shown off. Looks like it'll be a holiday game next year based on "we are targeting 2015".
My jaw dropped at the beginning of the presentation but the rest of it was just meh
Edit: It looks like Kirby will be coming out in Q1.
@3dcaleb Nintendo won't advertise New 3DS so soon to the Christmas holidays. They don't want to put off potential buyers of the current 3DS models.
@3dcaleb why do you need something on Pokémon? The game cones out in two weeks.
What a great time to be a Nintendo gamer.
I don't know why do people get overhyped on a direct before it begins. This Nintendo Direct aim was to provide us with updates for the upcoming Wii U and 3DS games, and people expects new titles to show up and end up disappointed.
That's why I read the Nintendo Direct info before I get excited.
I was hoping for some hints at N64 games finally making their way to the Wii U E-Shop. Sure, I can download them while in Wii mode on my Wii U, but then you don't get Digital Deluxe Promo points for it. It's absurd that N64 games still aren't in the Wii U E-Shop.
Good direct, but needed that Metroid announcement we are waiting for. Also, no news on Zelda U nor Mario Maker?
No VC updates though. I wonder if there will be N64 VC in the Wii U since they are porting them to DS/3DS (SM64, FZero, OoT, MM, Star Fox 64, etc). I'm okay with that IF they are making GC HD ports. So far it's only WW HD and some were ported to the Wii.
I don't care about MM3D, but I liked seeing that Project STEAM and Kirby are not that far away. And of course MK8 DLC in a week.
The japanese direct was great for 3DS, that attack on Titan game looked epic, if it ever got released I bet they would add pants to the enemies lol
Ace combat with Amiibo support was cool to see to.
Good direct.
Didn't really care for this direct, was hoping to see more of Starfox as thought it was going to be out early next year.
I'd thought I let you know, that the Japanese Direct says that Kirby Rainbow Curse is 3,700 yen which is the same price as Captain Toad, so expect that game to be $39.99 here too.
@FragRed
yea i can understand them not advertising it in stores and stuff until after christmas, but seeing as its already out in some places, i was hoping for a release date for everywhere else and/or maybe some info about games made just for it.
The fact that there wasn't a "please understand" moment means it was good. Im serious.
Id say it lived up to my always low expectations, nothing I'd wish for but pretty much everything that was needed.
Cons -
Pikmin short prices. For $5 the money better be going to a charity that researches whatever Iwata had. Kid Icasus and Dinosaur Office are free. Promote the channel.
That indie time in the middle w/ that bearded guy, at least it was short
Pros -
Kirby multiplayer - an actual good surprise - in Feb!
Splatoon single player
XCX looks good
amiibo getting shown and used in several games
Sonic Boom 3DS demo
Duck Hunt VC
Majoras Mask 3D
Missing -
DDP but didnt really expect it
Yoshi - 2D platformer revealed forever ago but Kirby is coming out first, weird
Mario Maker, Starfox, Projext Giant Robot all slated for 1st half 2015 in Nintendo poster but all missing so that cant be good
Price cuts or new Wii U bundles to stimulate console sales. Gotta have 1 or the other for the holidays.
So as usual Nintendo has good stuff, but they arent taking any chances or making any effort to move consoles. New 3DS should wait until Feb to be announced offically, but Wii U needs help, pronto. Duck Hunt, Pikmin vids would make good promotional give-aways for DLC or amiibo. Amiibo still dont have a must have game. Its like they dont care if Wii U sells or not, theyre attitude is - we made the games, but we'll make no effort to sell them to you. Thats Nintendos overall fault, the ND was ok.
This Direct was pretty good, the thing that excited me the most is that we can pretty much have Captain Falcon(technically) in Mario Kart 8 by the power of Amiibos.
Am I the only one that is concerned about the tremendous amount of weight that Iwata lost??? Although the games and the announcemets were top notch, I couldn't really think very far past Iwata's health because of how much weight he actually lost exept for three other things, those that come to mind from this direct are MAJORA'S MASK HYPE, Mario Kart 8 DLC is awesome and Disappointed that the NES Zapper part of Duck Hunt Duo's trailer was not his Final Smash, that would have been and amazing final smash...
@Luneth
seeing as pokemon comes out soon, this might be theyre last chance for any big announcements for it, maybe a new mega, primal, or some other features/news they havent covered yet to get people extra hyped about it. plus i love pokemon and just wouldve liked to see a new video of it. the demo was cool but very light on content. im dying for more!!
I thought it was alright. Although I'm not that excited for Majora's Mask since I've never really enjoyed it, despite being a huge Zelda fan. Great to see footage of Xenoblade Chronicles X, but slightly disappointed to not see any more info on SMT x Fire Emblem.
The first screens shots are out of watch dogs on wii u
Www.wiiudaily.com/2014/11/first-watch-dogs-on-wii-u
I'm mostly interested in new announcements rather than new footage of games we've seen before, but Splatoon and Xenoblade still look pretty good. Very happy to see MM3D confirmed too. Would have been nice if they'd announced N64 or Cube games for the VC though. Realistically the Wii U is probably nearing the half way stage of it's lifecycle, and I'm really starting to wonder if they'll come now.
no smash DLC? disappointing
@xj0462, Mewtwo, Miiverse Stage, and Tournament Mode.
@Dipper723 i means besides those
The biggest part of the direct for me as well was the splatoon footage as this is my most anticipated game for 2015. Overall, the direct was dissapointing. Nintendo missed an opportunity not only for a smash demo, but also for releasing n64 VC on the wii u. Also, i'm still waiting on a way to backup save data in case my wii u fails, that's the biggest problem that the wii u has right now IMO. When all your progress in Mk8, Smash, and hyrule warriors is lost, then maybe more people will complain about this one.
I don't think there is enough praise for how gorgeous xeboblade looks. Looked glorious watching it on my 40 inch TV in 60fps. Definate day one purchase
@PinkSpider
I was also impressed with xenoblade, it really is looking to be a beautiful game. Unfortunately, it's not my type of game.
@Light that's fair enough at least you appreciate how good it looks
@rjejr Agreed! I love the $5 to research whatever Iwata had but I'm not sure they will make enough to keep Iwata in the hospital for testing. I guess $5 could buy some bananas to keep him healthy.
@Dipper723 @xj0462 I don't think that the Miiverse stage and Tournament mode qualify. Mewtwo is DLC though.
Majora's Mask was the only thing for me, but that alone is more than enough!!
It was a good Direct and I'm sure we will get another end of December for the what's coming 2015 items. This direct was pretty much what I expected it to be with MM3D being the surprise. Excited that 8 new tracks come out next Thursday!
@rjejr
"Mario Maker, Starfox, Projext Giant Robot all slated for 1st half 2015"
They never said that Star Fox was going to be released in 1st half 2015
Anybody else think Iwata looks really thin? I hope he didn't go back to work too early.
So many great things...X, MM3D, Splatoon, WOW! Only thing that could have made it better was showing new footage of ZeldaU. 8.5/10
@Ryu_Niiyama I was thinking the exact same thing.
Nintendo, Whyz dids yous refenenceds zes FLIPNOTES?!?
The direct was good. I don't own a 3DS, so the majora mask game didn't interest me. And it also confirmed to me that they will never bring N64 games to the WiiU VC. The lack of DS games on the Wii U is another missing segment. On the good side, Captain Toad looked charming. Splatoon looked great. Xenoblade looked mind blowing. And lastly, the eshop looks stacked for indie games. My complaints are minor in the end, because I have way too much to play.
NCL has wonderful Splatoon and MK8 DLC trailers in 1080p 60fps!
Haha I finally completed Majora's Mask again this year....I was fed up waiting for it. (no regrets though! now my memory is fresh enough to notice all the pretty new details.
Its my favorite 3D Zelda. (and the most difficult 3D Zelda game in my eyes)
Splatoon looks like a GOTY 2015 for me...I love wacky Japanese stuff. Love the new octopus enemies!
Oh and Amiibo working with Hyrule Warriors and MK8? H*ll yeah!
Highlights in the order of importance to me:
1. Code name: S.T.E.A.M.
2. Xenoblade
3. Mario Kart DLC
4. Splatoon
5. Captain Toad
6. Indie lineup
7. Majora's Mask
8. Amiibo support
9. Pikmin 3 Demo
10. Sonic Demo
11. Kirby
12. Duck Hunt
13. Pikmin animation
14. Hyrule + Amiibos
15. Monster Hunter 4
Kinda happy with this direct. Its great to finally know when the mario kart 8 dlc is releasing, and I was ecstatic seeing majors mask 3ds and after seeing xenoblade im just more hyped for the game.I also felt the duckhunt smash trailer was pretty cool. But im seriously disappointed we still didnt get a confirmation or relase date for the new 3ds in north america. But overall I was pretty satisfied with this direct.
This Direct was ok.
I enjoyed Mario Kart 8 DLC, Splatoon, X and Shovel Knight becoming available for download.
Also Duck Hunt for VC and Smash.
Fantastic direct! I was hoping they would at least touch on the New Nintendo 3DS but, that can wait. I never played the original Majora's Mask so i'm quite thrilled they're finally making it 3D. Now all those fan projects can finally rest in peace, since we'll have the real deal. I was pleased to see some more on Xenoblade Chronicles X! That is my most anticipated Nintendo game, as well as playing the original on New Nintendo 3DS. Can't wait to use some Amiibos in Hyrule Warriors, race the master cycle in Mario Kart 8, and begin Monster Hunter 4! Splatoon? Meh, I'm way more excited about Duck Hunt. The Sonic Boom Shattered Crystals demo was neat!
This was one of the best Directs Nintendo has ever done
Splatoon is the most exciting NEW information for me.
You guys expect WAY to much from Direct's. The Splatoon trailer was my fav followed by XBX and than the Duck Hunt VC announcement.
@Captain_Toad Exactly what I wanted. Flipnote 3D will not come out any time soon. (At least that what I think)
@Ryno I let down my hopes after hearing it was 33 mins AND EVEN MORE down when I saw the indie games part of the video.
This was a very fine Direct. Not earth shattering in terms of brand new announcements but still great news. X, STEAM & Splatoon were particular favourites.
I'm in agreement with the view that N64 and GC VC will now not come to the Wii U. The big N will run the Wii U for the minimum amount of time before the next console and I just don't see them putting the time and effort in.
Still, let's all be positive and enjoy what there is coming rather than what isn't. Because what is coming is fantastic. There are far too many negative comments.
@Tulio517 - Ahh yes, you are correct, so I stand corrected. Got a little over zealous there.
In case anybody else is interested:

@jjmesa16 @Light
If you want to play a smash demo, play the 3DS smash.
@ikki5
Thanks, I actually played it on a friend's 3ds. I was more impressed than i thought i would be with it. Unfortunately, I do not own a 3ds and have no intentions of buying one. I am only into home console gaming and would rather play smash with a gamecube or pro controller on the big screen in HD and with a great sound system
@ikki5 @Light I do own Smash Bros. for 3DS and it's great but I'd like to play with my friends who don't have a 3DS. Also sitting in the same room, playing on the same TV, while trash talking and knocking each other off the stage, is just plain fun!
@3dcaleb They keep releasing trailers and info about Pokemon, why do they need to outline it?
@dkxcalibur Here is mine:
For some reason I'm just not that excited about Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.. I'm not sure if it's the gameplay, the story, or something else. I'll probably get the demo if it's available, and if I like it I'll buy it, but at this point I'm just not that excited about it.
My most anticipated game is probably Splatoon although I'm not sure what to think about the single player mode. The only reason I ranked Mario Kart DLC above everything else, is that it's coming out next week.
Xenoblade and Splatoon looked amazing. And S.T.E.A.M. looks really interesting. Plus then there is the Majora's Mask remake which I will try as I have never played the original.
Seriously, the best thing for me were those 2 minutes of Xenoblade. The game is shaping up to look amazing and seems to blow out all competition out of the park. Who needs FF when we have XCX. Plus it would be really cool if we could climb that super huge monster SoTC style because it is really weird when midgets fight the giants on the ground without the giant trying to crush the aformentioned midgets. Although even flying on the mech and battling that "colossus" seems to be a great proposition.
As Zelda U was not mentioned, neither was SMT x FE or Star Fox U, I believe that we will have another Direct in the beginning of next year to give us other stuff to look at. Plus more surprises
Overall, this Direct was really good.
@ jjmesa16
"Also sitting in the same room, playing on the same TV, while trash talking and knocking each other off the stage, is just plain fun!"
My thoughts exactly and this time it will be with 8 people simultaneously
Man, being my "Month of Persona" and having a ND is awesome!!! Super excited for pretty much everything shown!
I wasn't interested in much of what they had to show. The only games I was really interested in were Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad, and Splatoon, and with MK8, they mainly just recapped the DLC and showed off a few new stages, and then Captain Toad just got a generic trailer that didn't show off anything interesting. Splatoon's single player trailer was the only part of this Direct I truly enjoyed.
It was a nice direct. The part that interest me the most was the amiibos support in past and future games and the monster hunter 4 for cuteness sake. Always glad to go in with low expectations.
@TheRainbow90 @Captain_Toad I was just as disappointed!
Miyamoto mentioning Flipnote Studio, starting to say "Speaking of...", then NOT SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT THE 14 MONTH DELAY IS SIMPLY CRUEL!!!
@shinokami
i never said they needed to "outline" pokemon, (and i dont get the point of your comment. they've shown videos of it before, so now they shouldnt? umm, ok). i said i wished they had shown a new video or mega evolution, because its coming out so soon. could be the last chance to show off and hype up one of their best selling family of games.
I was really concerned about how frail Iwata looked. I liked the Direct but every time it cut back to him I got distracted worrying about how sick he's been and if he's really doing any better.
The only thing that concerns me is whether or not Majora's Mask 3D will have a Master Quest type mode similar to Ocarina of Time 3D. Seeing as they would have to make one by hand it seems unlikely and if this just ends up being a graphical upgrade and nothing more then I will just stick to the Wii Virtual Console version of the game instead.
.... and no art academy. crap.
