@-wc- despite how melancholic the subject of this thread is, I’m really grateful it let us meet, mate. G’day. ✌️

There's one user on Push Square and NL who I am seeing replies to, but can never see their original comment. Used incognito mode and their comments were all visible. Only been here a month or so and don't post anything I believe to be imflammatory so I find it a little weird, but obviously don't really care.

@Pastellioli I wouldn't get too hung up on why someone has you on ignore or block, people use it for a variety of reasons and not always because the other person is 'at fault'. It could simply be that they are not that interested in what you are commenting on. I've used it in the past (and still do occasionally) for a few users and it wasn't anything to do with interactions I'd had with them personally. For example I had a user on ignore because they were constantly posting links to videos on YouTube and I felt not really contributing to posts beyond posting links to the videos. I never watched the videos, so I'd rather not see them at all. Another seemed to constantly respond to posts (not mine) with unhelpful or just plain nonsense info so ignored them too. I've had a few users on and off the ignore list because they often posted walls of text that were just incoherent rants, a couple that don't seem to be able to cope with others having different opinions to theirs etc.

@dmcc0 I see. I do wonder if other users have me on an ignore or block list aside from that one person. I would say that I am sometimes a bit annoying on this site and I do post a bit too much about games that I like and I won’t shut up about it so I wonder if some people have me on a block list because of how annoying I can be sometimes or that I keep mentioning stuff that they are not interested in. If someone does mention something that does not seem interesting to me, I don’t block them and I just scroll to see other comments. I have become a bit less hung up on getting blocked and less sad about it, but I have a poor tendency to be very obsessive about stuff and worrying about it. I hope I don’t come off as annoying to you or anyone else on this site.

@Pastellioli Yeah I feel like people think I’m annoying sometimes, but even if I don’t like someone’s comments I don’t block them. I don’t like blocking people for their opinion because I don’t want just my own point of view. The only reason I would block is if someone was bullying me or something. Thankfully I haven’t really run into too many problems, most people here seem pretty nice!

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Super Mario RPG, and Mario & Luigi Brothership all on one console is LEGENDARY

Pastellioli

@PikminMarioKirby Same too. I don’t really like blocking people for differing opinions they have, because I like to see different points of view, not to mention some people with different opinions have widened my perspective and let me see other sides of something. I think people being inconsiderate towards other opinions and only wanting people who share the same opinion as them is not a good thing to do, since it creates a echo chamber where other opinions are pretty much not welcome, plus I feel like it just shows off the personality of a person too. I would only use the block or ignore function if someone was super rude or hostile, but never on someone who has a different opinion, like they dislike a game that I enjoy a lot.

I’ve likely been blocked by some due to the absurdist nonsense I sometimes put out there. I mean no harm by it; just hoping to bring some thematically relevant levity.

Ultimately, I decided to post less often and go back to lurking.

I can only imagine myself blocking someone if I felt that they were being repeatedly deliberately hateful.

@Yousef-

yes, same 🙂 I'm glad we found our way here.

@dmcc0

I tend to ignore people (never block) and then when i happen across the ignore list, I either cant remember why, or don't care anymore, and I reverse it. 😆

to me, ignoring is just curating, but blocking is like punishing someone. Someone would have to be seriously bullying or threatening me for me to got that route ✌️ which has never happened to me here, thankfully.

A few have blocked me. The user already discussed, and one other for sure who seemed to block anyone that said they enjoyed the Hogwarts game.

Some people just can’t live in a world where two
Opposing or even different views exist.

Unfortunately the modern world creates bubbles and an angry mob mentality.

People like to only hear voices they agree with. It’s a shame as most of us actually agree… just sometimes misunderstand tone or certain situations.

Tolerance is a lost art. I’ve used block on a few websites (don’t think here) but only if someone is seriously putting me off logging on.

I’m all for opposing views. But personal attacks or hidden attacks.

Also not a fan of people saying a view and when it turns out to be wrong deleting it. If you said it own it and learn from it.

If blocking me made those folk happy or gave them a buzz - glad to help.

I’m here to post my views on whatever the thread is same as pure Xbox and push square I own all three and all three companies drive me crazy with certain decisions. I don’t have a favourite. Many don’t like anyone that isn’t super positive over their fave box to play games on.

@-wc- me too! This thread has been helpful for getting some things off my mind. Everyone here is very knowledgeable and helpful and I feel better now.

@-wc- yeah, I don't think I've got anyone on block and I do tend to 'un-ignore' every so often - although I have instantly put a couple straight back on 😅

Zuljaras

@Stocksy Same here. However, I am really curious on WHY some people blocked me, because there are some surprising of the bunch.

Other not so much, because of "political" standings (the Hogwarts saga)

Kimyonaakuma

Not been blocked or ignored as far as I can tell. Haven't personally done it to anyone either - not because I haven't found anyone that's annoyed or disagreed with me! I'm just not that invested.

Not even including personal preferences, there could easily be a language barrier, lack of context, etc.

Personally, I've yet to see a reason to block someone. Maybe some people like it because it's like having the last word?
Can't see a place like this being filled with genuine hate. Differences of opinion aside, everyone seems quite nice

Pastellioli

@Zuljaras I don’t really know the controversy for Hogwarts Legacy since I’m not into Harry Potter (plus I’ve never played Hogwarts) but whenever I visited the site as a guest prior to making an account, everyone in the comments would argue on articles for the game and Hogwarts articles would get somewhere around 100 to 200 comments. I even think they had to disable comments for a few of those. I can imagine the block and ignore features were used HEAVILY at that time. I really get sad seeing people argue each other on this site…

@Pastellioli the issue was that it was making a video game about something else. I understand why passions were running high. There was a lot of misinformation. However none of that was about the game. Some of us just wanted to discuss the game. Anyway….. a few users seemed to block anyone that said they enjoyed the game. As everyone should have boycotted in their view.

@Zuljaras I think sometimes they want that. They want to have an impact on someone else’s mental health and often it feels personal. But no one can know me from the comments on here. So I don’t let it bother me. I know I try my best to be kind to others no matter what and don’t do personal attacks so it’s bizarre anyone would block me. Except the one serial blocker who I did have a moan at but I can’t stand saying one thing and contradicting yourself and he did it and tried to justify it. He looks down on so many of us because we play games he doesn’t like.

Live and let live.

Wish the whole world would just be a bit more kind to each other.
