As part of Nintendo's end-of-year financial report for FY2024, the company has updated its top ten best-selling games list for the Switch with new sales figures.
The order stays the same as last quarter, and sales of all games show relatively minor bumps, although Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate all tipped over into their next million, with the kart racer having added a cool 1.39 million additional sales since December 2023.
Here's the breakdown (we've included the figures from last quarter for comparison).
Game | Q4 FY24 (millions) | Q3 24 (millions) |
---|---|---|
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe | 61.97 | 60.58 |
Animal Crossing: New Horizons | 45.36 | 44.79 |
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate | 34.22 | 33.67 |
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | 31.85 | 31.61 |
Super Mario Odyssey | 27.96 | 27.65 |
Pokémon Sword and Shield | 26.27 | 26.17 |
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet | 24.92 | 24.36 |
Super Mario Party | 20.66 | 20.34 |
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom | 20.61 | 20.28 |
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe | 17.45 | 17.20 |
Elsewhere, Switch hardware sales have now surpassed 140 million and an upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation was confirmed, also don't expect any 'Switch 2' news there — the company confirmed that an announcement for the "Switch successor" will be made sometime "this fiscal year," but that it won't feature in the upcoming June Nintendo Direct.

do we have the current sales number for Super Mario Bros Wonder?
It's really blasphemous that Mario Wonder isn't on this list yet
@_Figo_ Yep, it's 13.44M, you can check it in this other Nintendo Life article: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/05/nintendo-switch-surpasses-140-million-sales-as-company-acknowledges-successor
I hope Mario Wonder beats U Deluxe soon!
I'm surprised Splatoon 2 or 3 hasn't done as well as some of these and it's Nintendo's main online multiplayer focused game.
I'm continued to be shocked at TOTK's sales nosedive
@UltimateOtaku91 MK8.
@PtM Good point although I'd wager there's a lot who just use the game for single player and local multiplayer, and some copies that got bundled with consoles and don't get played.
The best choice for me is simply ACNH.
I have accumulated more than 1010 hours gameplay since 27 June 2020.
Nice, we'll kinda see these games on the typical "top games on this console" video in the future.
We're always making history with our games and decisions.
@PikminMarioKirby
Just for trivia, Mario Wonder needs to beat 8 different first party games to get in this top ten:
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
Splatoon 2
Luigi's Mansion 3
Pokemon Legend Arceus
Pokemon BD & SP
Pokemon LGP & LGE
Ring Fit Adventure
And finally New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
These are just the best-selling first party games, right? Otherwise, I assume Minecraft would be on the list.
@Yomerodes Well yes but considering the gap is only about 4 million sales between Wonder and U Deluxe, Wonder should easily be able to take it down with it still selling consistently well.
yuck, what is scarlet and violet doing up there?
I have not picked up Tears of the Kingdom yet. I never finished Breath of the Wild so I feel like I can't justify the purchase. Maybe one day, second hand...on sale.
The Switch has been the harbinger of great new titles, and holder of a fantastic library of classics. I get too distracted by NSO to play the new games most of the time.
Tears of the Kingdom achieving (in 1 year!) 2/3 as many sales as Breath of the Wild has achieved in 7 years is really incredible.
@MsMaestroon Everyone has a different opinion but personally I loved TotK way more than BotW, no contest. Even if you didn't finish the first game, I think it's totally worth giving the sequel a shot. FWIW
@jedgamesguy I honestly blame all the contrarians badmouthing TOTK for months after launch, professing their uber distinguished disappointment and pretending it's so much worse than BOTW. BOTW never had to deal with the same kind of tumultuous word of mouth.
2nd titles on consoles typically sell worse, so there should be no surprise about TOTK. It's visually similar to BOTW, costs $70, and has had 6 fewer years to sell.
At least it's IN the top 10, I say thinking about my beloved Splatoon. If only that series was marketed here half as much as in Japan...
As usual, I've only played one of those ten.
@jedgamesguy I bet its because everyone who wanted the game bought it at launch
And even then (of games in the top 10) only mario kart, animal crossing, and smash sold more then it this quarter
