Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a stand-out game on Switch, and well out in front as the system's bestseller. As the name suggests, it packs in all the content of the original and indeed a little bit more — this includes all of the optional Mii amiibo racing outfit unlocks.
Yep, Mii characters are still on Switch, and you can opt to use the little avatars in races.
In this guide we'll be looking at all of the Mii Costumes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, all of the costumes added in Booster Course Pass Wave 6, as well as how to use amiibo functionality, and how to get all of the Mii costumes.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Mii Outfits - Full Character List
All Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Outfits
Unlike in the Wii U version, in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe all Mii Racing Costumes are available from the off — you just need to scan in an amiibo. Pleasingly, you can use any mainline amiibo for the characters or franchises to unlock the outfit. In cases where a character only has one amiibo figure, however, that's the one you'll need to own!
These are all of the Mii Costumes you can get in the base game without the Booster Course Pass and with amiibo.

FAQs
How to Access amiibo Functionality in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
The functionality is on the main menu screen of the game, though it is found down in the bottom area in between 'Play Stats' and 'MKTV'. When you select the area you'll get a handy screen that shows all available unlocks and a nice 'tick' on those that you've already activated.
How to Scan amiibo in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
When in the amiibo screen above the NFC touchpoints are active. If using Nintendo Joy-Con, you'll need the Right Joy-Con; you can scan a figure or card by touching its base on the analogue stick. If using a Pro Controller hold the base of the amiibo over the Nintendo Switch logo in the top-middle of the controller.
When you successfully scan an amiibo and unlock the related Mii outfit the game will share the good news!
How to Wear Mii amiibo Costumes
All of the Mii outfits you've unlocked are found on the character select screen. At the bottom right is 'Mii', and once you go there and select a Mii character the game will show unlocked outfits; pick one and show it off in a race!
Do you need amiibo to access the new Costumes from Booster Course Pass Wave 6?
No, you don't, except for one of them.
Booster Course Pass Wave 6 adds 18 new Mii Costumes to the selection. 17 of these are available as long as you have the DLC. Only Daisy's Costume requires a Daisy amiibo to unlock.
Do New amiibo Work in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?
Yes! Well, at least in a test we conducted. We tried out a Samus figure from the 2021 release Metroid Dread, and the game recognised the figure and unlocked the Samus outfit with no problems. Also of note, Animal Crossing amiibo cards will unlock the IP's outfit.
As of Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass, the following additions have also been made:
- Made it so you can acquire the “Varia Suit” when using a Metroid series amiibo.
- Made it so you can acquire the “Hylian Suit” when using a Legend of Zelda series amiibo.
- Made it so you can acquire the “Kirby Suit” when using a Kirby series amiibo.

Why'd they snub my boy Waluigi like that
I'm almost surprised that they didn't also lock Goomba behind its respective amiibo as well (as perhaps Petey Piranha behind the Smash Piranha Plant amiibo).
@ThomasBW84 Missing on the list:
(I've just tested all of them)
Mario: Cat Mario, 30th Anniversary Mario (all colors)
Peach: Cat Peach
Link: Zelda (Super Smash Bros. series), Sheik, Ganondorf (Super Smash Bros. series), Young Link (Super Smash Bros. series), every Legend of Zelda series amiibo (brown and crest base)
Kirby: King Dedede (Super Smash Bros. series) Meta Knight (Super Smash Bros. series), every Kirby series amiibo (blue and stars base)
Samus: Ridley, Dark Samus, every Metroid series amiibo (blue and metal base)
Pikmin: Pikmin (brown and grass base)
Animal Crossing: Isabelle (Super Smash Bros. series)
Mega Man: Mega Man (Mega Man series) (black and 30th base)
Splatoon: Inkling (Super Smash Bros. series), every Splatoon series amiibo (black and ink base)
I asume everyone of them apply only to the Switch version, since the list was accurate as of the last update to the Wii U version (except for the part of both 30th Anniversary Mario colors working)
EDIT: No, Mario Sports Superstars amiibo cards and Delicious amiibo (Mario cereal) are not compatible
