I don't normally watch these, but I thought this was pretty good and there was something for everyone.

Batman, Metal Gear and the new Mario.
All the rest is a pass for me.

I'm just so happy to see Super Mario RPG get a remake. I hope they add something new in the game but either way I'll be happy and is a day 1 buy for me. A lot of good stuff here but the highlight was RPG for me. I hope we get to see Geno on a more regular basis now!

A good direct as I am either quite interested or insta-buying the vast majority of those. Super Mario RPG Remake, Arkham Trilogy, Pikmin 2, Warioware Move It the highlights. But there is a lot there I want (including Super Mario Wonder, DQ Monsters).

(Hopefully we get Persona 3 Reload one day, SIGH)

Nintendo ensuring that the Switch goes out with a bang. A jam packed second half to 2023 with the Peach and Luigi's Mansion title to look forward to in 2024 before the likely successor launches in the second half of 2024 👍

I’m honestly surprised at how people are raving about this direct. No Metroid Prime 4 news (or Prime 2/3 hd ports or remasters) no F-Zero, no Zelda TotK dlc, no FE 4 remake, nothing new and exciting other than a new 2D Mario that admittedly looks very nice. We got ports, remakes, etc. I do hope this is Nintendo’s was of telling us their next gen hardware is on the way next year

Silent Home and Star Ocean were my faves <3 (Not including what we already knew about like DQM and Faefram)

Also Pokémon scarlet violet is un embrassement of the series. So unpolished, so blunt.

Holy f***, this direct was P A C K E D. Was NOT expecting a Super Mario RPG remake or Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon remaster. The best Nintendo Direct to date for sure.

It looks good, thought it was Goemon for a minute (which makes sense considering the Good Feel staff's history with Goemon).

I was getting set to write off the Direct until about a third of the way through it. Some interesting looking stuff, especially Mario RPG, and some surprises like Warioware and Peach. If they are bringing Luigi's Mansion 2 over I think they should bring the first one too and still no Donkey Kong game ( I think it's pushing ten years at this point). So pretty decent overall, although I thought that giving over time to a Splatfest and a couple of European championships was basically filler. Ultimately though I thought I wasn't going to really buy anything this year but after this there are a few things on my radar.

Still waiting for Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Super Mario Wonder and Super Mario RPG Remake stole the show for me.

I’m hella excited for both. Plus the confirmation that the Metal Gear collection will be on Switch.

Also I’m very interested in seeing what the Peach platformer ends up being like. Super Princess Peach was actually a very solid game back in the day.

Super Mario RPG had me excited when the music hit, but the moment it morphed to the remake and then all the footage... I nearly cried during my work break. Very excited for that, and for Super Mario Bros Wonder (hopefully not too easy). I'll def get those TotK amiibo.

Looks flipping awesome. Looking forward to Sonic and SMB Wonder. I think I'm ready to start Mario + Rabbids Spark... The 1st M+R is one of my all time favorite games. And of course more courses for Mario Kart is always welcome!

Wasn't sure Arkham knight would run on switch but if witcher 3 is possible almost anything on PS4 should be. Oh and yay new Mario! Bout time! The mario Rpg remake and Luigis mansion 2 plus MGS collection was a nice surprise!

Wow I’m absolutely blown away by this direct, it’s one of Nintendos very best. Yes I was hoping for Metroid prime 4, but we got lots of unexpected surprises. Plenty of Mario love in that direct and that all looks great! The pigeon rhythm game and warioware will be great with the family. The little game with the yoyos from sonic manias team looked wonderful. Pikmin 4 plus a collection of the first two is very much welcome. Mario rpg probably takes the cake and only gives me hope for paper Mario remakes. Having the Batman trilogy on switch will be really cool and the metal gear games, I’m just hoping i can get them physical please.

New Mario and Mario rpg would have me interested if they weren’t priced so high. Neither worth it at that price imho.

And I can play Mario rpg for free with crappier graphics and imagine them higher res.

This Direct was truly the Farming Sim/Animal Crossing/RPG of all time.

Super Mario RPG, Scarlet and Violet DLC, Star Ocean, and SMB Wonder were my favorite announcements.

This was the horror. Complete snore fest. I love Pikmin usually but not even that excited me. Maybe my heart is dead. I’ll just stick to Zelda for the rest of the year. Maybe I’ll get Wonder.

It was all right. I know they say Super Mario RPG is one of the best ever made and that a "new" 2D Super Mario will probably rock everyone's socks off, but I can't say there was a game in this Direct that I would immediately buy.

Arkham Trilogy now is just irritating? Release that 2 years ago and I'm all over it and not too fussed about how Knight looks. But you've waited and waited... and now I'd obviously rather play this on new hardware. So nope. Not buying that.

Mario Wonder looks decent. Nice to have that limed up for the holidays.

Mario RPG is amazing to see, but I really hope there's more content. There must be, surely? Hope it does well and we get an all new game in the future.

Still no Donkey Kong really, really annoys me. Sorry, but that's just poor management now. It's a huge gaming series and it obviously deserves its own game on Switch.

As does Star Fox, but I can accept that one more as its nowhere near as big as DK.

Switch has been an amazing journey so far, but Nintendo haven't had it all their own way. Sports titles have all been very weak this generation, I've found their 3D games very hit or miss, and there are too many huge gaps in the lineup now too.

If Switch is nearing the end of its lifecycle, then this Direct does a pretty good job. However, my fear is that we're getting Nintendo dragging things out for a couple more years... and if that's the case, then this Direct is not hitting the mark for me.

Not sure if it was mentioned before, but according to the Japanese Nintendo Direct website, Sonic Superstars and Super Mario RPG will be available in both formats, physical and digital.

The new Mario, Princess Peach, and Pikmin games as well as Penny's Big Breakaway all look good but I'm mostly excited about the remakes and rereleases, particularly because between the first two Pikmin, the already released Metroid Prime Remaster, and the previously announced Baten Kaitos games, we're finally getting a decent chunk of GameCube titles. Add to that the Luigi's Mansion 2 rerelease and a sequel to Detective Pikachu and it's starting to look like Nintendo's paying attention to 3DS games too. Much as I've loved plenty of Switch exclusives, I've always primarily thought of the Switch as a retro machine and it's great to see Nintendo moving beyond the NES and SNES in their definition of retro games that are worth keeping in the public eye.

I was surprised with all of the announcements. And how they didn't talk about any DLC for TotK? I wonder if it will be some sort of strange multiplayer battle royale thing. Why wait so long and risk people are not into the game anymore?
Going for WarioWare and SMB Wonder, Pikmin 1+2 (in September then) for sure. Batman Trilogy looks tempting (all great reviewed games) but curious about the quality of the port vs loading times, and the support, one box or three doesn't matter but no downloads please.

I wish I cared more about remakes. I love love love super Mario RPG but recently played it on SNES mini. I love Pikmin, but 4 will be enough to keep me going. Luigi's mansion Dark moon is the worst in the series. Why couldn't they just have done Super Mario RPG 2? It's not like the original had a life changing story, and the obviously took plenty of time to make the new graphics and the sound is amazing.

Dear NintendoLife team, don’t include that many videos an one page. Though my iPhone is pretty new, Safari regularly crashes when trying to load these pages. And my second wish: Add a list of all announced games in chronological order of release date, this would help me a lot to better get what’s coming.

Hmmm. Those first party games don't feel like proper A-tier material to me. And I don't care how anyone else thinks about it, but I want a new 2D/2.5D Super Mario Bros. game to basically feel like it's the pinnacle of what can be achieved in that space, which I don't get here. To be fair, I've not really felt like that for some time about the 2D/2.5D Super Mario Bros. games, but that's what I want. And, after the absolutely AAA-tier The Super Mario Bros. Movie, that A-tier 2D/2.5D Super Mario Bros. Movie is what I want more than anything now. Something that takes us back to the top of the genre level that the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and even Yoshi's Island all were as far as I'm concerned. I want that again.

Feels like we're still missing a lot of games/franchises before the Switch caps off its lifecycle. I'm very surprised there's no Mario sports title this year and baseball would have been an excellent fit as it's the only major missing sport from Mario's previous outings (I know Mario Hoops 3x3 exists but it was a small DS title developed by SquareEnix and there's no chance that's getting a sequel). Obviously no mention of Silksong or Metroid Prime 4. No news on WW/TP HD but it's still too soon from TOTK's launch, although Metroid Prime 2 & 3 HD would have fit in nicely this year. The only other major rumored port was Paper Mario TTYD but I doubt that one's real. Still completely MIA: new Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Punch Out, Golden Sun, Kid Icarus, F-Zero.

Gotta say - Nintendo are on fire. I've only just got my first switch and I don't regret it. Pikmin 1&2, pikmin 4 and Mario wonder really appeal to me.

One of the best things from the Direct was to see two presentators instead of just one, it's closer to the old model of having one speaking directly to you.

Speaking of the Direct iself, it reaffirmed Nintendo's commitment to their current console with a focus on smaller-than-blockbuster games, remasters/remakes and DLC for current games. About their bigger games, Pikmin 4 is coming soon, Metroid Prime 4 will come (eventually), and Super Mario Bros. Wonder is looking quite big for a 2D Mario. I guess I could count it as AAA, but it's more inline with a high-tier AA like Metroid Dread, in the style of their previous handheld games.

Third-party support is going quite good too, even if Persona 3 Reload was strangely absent. At this point I'm sure indie devs will support the system for a very, very long time, even when its successor will already be on the market (just look at how they supported the PS Vita!), while other companies will be open to release smaller games on the system. I don't see more impossble ports coming to Switch after the currently announced ones (well maybe except for certain ones that don't necessarily count as them).
The system is still profitable, so more outside games make sense.

For now, let's focus mainly on the present, but don't forget what will come after the Switch.
Nintendo's studios surely are secretly busy working on promising, bigger games than the currently announced, and they know a new console needs a good reason to sell: games.

It's about time we got a Nintendo Direct that wasn't for McJRPG Guys. SCRIMBLO BIMBLO THE LOVABLE SCRUNKO STANS EATING GOOD, BAYBEEE!!!!

A lot of cool stuff. Is Pikmin 1&2 HD a bundle or separate? Digital and physical. I'd get the physical in September I assume they wouldn't put it individual to put out more cartridges but digital would be separate? Then combined to get more out (of course no cartridge production involved in digital).

I already bought Pikmin 1 on Wii in the past few months and at the final boss so eh timing. XD But never played Pikmin 2 at all and had 3 on Wii U not Deluxe so going to be interesting of more Pikmin and whole series on Switch.

Been picking up a few Switch games the past few weeks (Drawn To Life Two Realms grrr digital code, Wreckfest finally and Clive n Wrench) as hadn't for a while (not had my Switch long only Christmas 2021 but only had the odd games in January 2022 and Christmas 2022 only got a few more for 2023 and willing to get more but the more I see of first party (I'll get probably get Bayonetta Origins for Christmas beside Disgaea 7 or Pikmin 4 and get other first party later like both tactical RPG Fire Emblem games, Advance Wars and some others I'm forgetting).

I'll get to them eventually once cheaper but glad to see what is available at least and third parties (depends what of physical but digital only things like Gal Gun Returns (always digital grrr retail stores and your standards) and Grid Autosport that will never see physical in my region at least grr) as they are cheaper already over time and if I can find copies of Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Astral Chain (have but still pricey), Cruis'n Blast and a few others, Atari 50 just go down already! Klonoa and Pacman I'll get to you at some point).

No Prime 4 yet but we will see later.

Wonder is a surprise for 2D Mario finally having personality as it was lacking in the other New entries. Not my thing but still cool.

Mario RPG on there is nice to see.

The third parties seem pretty alright don't know enough about them but still cool. Batman on there is a surprise it's so late to Switch.

There was so much here, rather than skipping June like many predicted, I could see them skipping the usual September direct.

My holiday 2023 is starting to look like a busy one, I hope I can have enough funds for everything:

Kept being told nintendo switch was winding down and the next gen would get all the games but then we get a dozen titles.

i will also get Pikmin 1+2 next month.

I thought Super Princess Peach 2 (TBA) had it in the bag, but then WarioWare caught me completely off guard, and was easily the BEST announcement of the Direct, and quite possibly any Direct since the Iwata days. (RIP)

I've been yearning for a Smooth Moves sucessor since the release of the MotionPlus accessory (which was screaming for a new WarioWare game), and it bloody took them long enough!

Detective Pikachu Returns : Looks gorgeous. I'm hoping that Japanese audio will be included as an option considering that the lip-syncing was tailored to the original Japanese dialogue.
Super Mario RPG : I have mixed feelings about it as it looks like a dated game wrapped around a pretty exterior. I'll reserve judgement until there are some reviews, but I'm also not on the lookout for any other RPGs.
Luigi's Mansion 2 : I was so close to finishing this on 3DS, but I... just didn't for some reason. I'm also a little miffed that the first people isn't being brought over as well.
Pikmin 1+2 : I've never played a main series Pikmin game, and this might just be the thing to get me to dive in. I was half-tempted to pick up Pikmin 3 ahead of the launch of Pikmin 4, but this is even better.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 : I may bite if there is a physical release. I've never played a Metal Gear game.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder : A long overdue refresh for the series.

@Friscobay : The Japanese Direct announced an early November release. I don't know why it wasn't announced in the English-language Direct. While I suspect that it will get a Western physical release, in the unlikely event that it doesn't, the Japanese release will support English.

Nintendo really just keeps dropping the ball with these bottom-of-the-barrel Splatfest themes that nobody even cares about and the fact that it's getting a 0% is so evident that they need to take the entirely half-baked mess back to the drawing board, especially considering that fans themselves care more about that broken, fumbling mess by creating far better themes than the very company that made Splatoon to begin with-

Palia looks like a game like Harvestella. Penny's Big Breakaway this game looks good. Adventure game for me.

I played the og Super Mario RPG but it's been awhile.

Gosh, I would honestly go so far as to say that this direct was embarrassing when compared to the recent Xbox showcase.

The game that may have got my attention most is actually Mythforce. I love the 80s cartoon feel and the coop dungeon crawling looks fun to me.

A new "2D" Sonic and new "2D" Mario game in the same year... just wow!

Yet not a single mention for the whole western audience… it is very strange, it’s a beloved series with no real concurrence on switch platform right now, it really deserves some love from Nintendo even though they are no longer involved in synSophia publishing or development

Awesome stuff. Arkham and MGS trilogies, Mythforce and new DQM, a promising freemium sim RPG (it'll be funny if this one comes out before Dreamlight Valley goes F2P), Silent Hope with what some allegedly spot to be Rune Factory universe ties and an overdue (but now self-explanatory in terms of the release gap) Star Ocean Second Encounter R... and then there's first party with Pikmin flagships gathering on Switch, more WarioWare (which doubles as Nintendo making Yuzu users at least splurge out on the joycons😜), a curious new 2D Mario with Luigi and at least two of the gals also on board (Sonic Superstars who?), an SMRPG remake and a brand new Peach game. Brand. New. Peach game. Peaches, peaches, peaches peaches peaches...🎶

2023 is officially packed, and there's more stuff to wishlist for 2024 as well, whether it will be the Gen 10 kickoff year or not.

I'll just play the MGS3 remake, it's the only one of the 3 I really enjoy. Unless they added Twin Snakes, but that'll never happen.
