The special Nintendo mobile direct for Dragalia Lost co-developed by Cygames has just concluded.
Following yesterday's reveal the mobile service would launch on 27th September in the US, Japan, Hong Kong and Macau, all that was left to do during the live stream was discuss the content within the game.
In brief, it's a free-to-start action RPG set in a fantasy universe filled with warriors, magic and dragons. It's designed specifically for smartphones with intuitive touchscreen controls. Players will be able to team up online with three others in co-op story quests, events and raid battles.
Here's the rundown, direct from the PR:
In Dragalia Lost, players build a customized party of adventurers and set off on a grand journey – one that will take them to a variety of locales to save the Kingdom of Alberia from mysterious evil forces that are corrupting the realm. While exploring the world, players control their party of adventurers in battle, even transforming into mighty dragons to unleash devastating attacks. Along the way, players can discover more than 60 companions for their party that offer a variety of different weapon classes, combat abilities and elemental properties.
Battles are performed in real time to keep players in the action, dragging their fingers on the screen to move their characters, tapping or holding to engage with various attacks and flicking along the screen to dodge. It’s all very intuitive and easy to pick up for any type of player. And by using the in-game currency Diamantium or Wyrmite, players can summon new characters, dragons or special accessories called Wyrmprints that can be equipped for powerful abilities or bonuses. Wyrmite is earned in the game as a reward for completing quests, while Diamantium can be purchased using real-world money.
Dragalia Lost is all about letting players play how they want. Party members can be customized in all sorts of ways, whether it’s through new equipment or leveling up and earning new or upgraded abilities. Dragalia Lost even offers synchronous online multiplayer with up to three other people who have the game, so friends can share the experience throughout the game’s main story adventure, additional quests and event raids.
To pre-register for the game visit the official website where you can sign up with your Nintendo Network ID or register your email address on the App Store or Google Play. If you pre-register now, you'll receive up to 1,500 Wyrmite (in-game currency), if more than 500,000 users sign up.

I watched the direct, out of curiosity, and it looks like a decent mobile game.
I'm still confused about it getting It's own direct though. But I guess Nintendo is still trying to establish itself in the mobile game market.
I watched the Direct. It looks like a mobile game that's had a lot of work put into it, and it shows. That said, it doesn't really look like it does anything TOO different from normal...but I suppose looks can be deceiving.
I'll likely end up downloading it at some point.
This game on mobile looks really fun. This mobile game looks like a lot of work was put into it.... Which is always a plus in the mobile market.
I wonder if they can add this game to the switch? Still free to play and all, but on switch.
... But still wanna play it
No european release date, eh.
Pass. You all know how little I think of mobile games at this point. The only 2 I play are Hearthstone - which I prefer on PC but tolerate on phone for convenience and lack of alternative, and Pokemon Go, because it is Pokemon and I have many friends who play it. And because playing a mere 5 minutes each day is all it takes.
The idea of playing an RPG on a smartphone with touch screen controls sounds terrible.
It was just like any of the 10000 other generic action RPGs that flood the App Store.
They didn’t show anything that could make me think otherwise.
I’ll probably download it and play it for a couple of days, then literally forget it exists. Just like with Fire Emblem, Super Mario Run or Animal Crossing.
Could’ve been put on the 3DS, no?
receive up to 1,500 Wyrmite (in-game currency), if more than 500,000 users sign up.
Words like 'up to' and 'if more' sort of covers all bases.
There's no denying how well crafted this game looks.
Just what "free to start" will end up meaning in this specific regard remains to be seen then.
hmm no thanks.
@Pod Best case scenario it's like Super Mario Run and you pay a 10 bucks fee to unlock the rest of the game.
Worst case scenario, it turns into a crap Free 2 Play game with horrible cash shop trying to milk you left and right.
Nintendo please steer clear of the mobile crap
@Regpuppy
It is probably getting its own direct because it's a first for Nintendo to start a new franchise on mobile.
It reminds me of FF Crystal Chronicles on DS. I spent hours on it.
What about Europe? Not that i'll be playing this anyway
@Jeronan
I certainly will be curious to see Nintendo and Cygames' strategy with this.
Lucky Macau, Hong Kong, Japs and US citizens...rest of the world not so much.
I registed even though there's no current plan for European release..hope for the best
@Regpuppy Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think all their first party mobile games have had their own Direct. They don’t show mobile titles in their main Directs.
@roboshort not really smr was part of apples ER
Does this have always online DRM? If so, Nintendo have already lost a potential customer (i.e. me).
@roboshort Guess I've just never paid attention to them before.
Looks like trash.
btw did you guys know there is a free-to-play Shin Megami Tensei for mobile?
Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2
It's pretty good.
I thought the presentation wa great! The game looks polished! Multiplayer looks fun!
Dare I say - it ..Needs a SWITCH version lol.
No physical release...how am I gonna slam it in the back of my switchula!!
@Tyranexx free to start should be worth a try. Graphics remind me of the alliance alive/legend of legacy, hopefully it doesn't have awful dialogue. Gonna preregister myself
Wow those visuals are super generic
While it looks to have great mechanics, I don't think it will be for me since it doesn't look like it will have an end point. There seem to be a gazillion ways to upgrade the gazillion elements shown. Continual evolution like that might provide challenge, but it also gives me the feeling of, "what's the point?" because it can never be "beaten".
@Hobbesyall Nintendo bought this company and has several more different mobile games in the works. I think they're driving straight through it. Too late to hope otherwise. Only way they'd stop is if mobile games cost them more than they earn, but so far they're earning a profit from their mobile division, just not as much as they'd like. That being said, I'm not going to encourage them by downloading this. 😋
Definitely not something for me but my kids are looking forward to it. Hope it does well for them!
Looks like fun. I'm downloading
I would care but given its not releasing in this nebulous void that sits east of the US and west of Japan that the games industry hates to acknowledge then I simply cant care.
This is entirely my kind of game. Action RPG with surprisingly diverse range of characters and weapons and is bright and colourful. But it's not coming to Switch? And isn't even coming to Europe (for now)? That's just a double slap in the face. The multiplayer especially would have been great to play but I guess Nintendo just doesn't like those of us who are in the UK.
@Alikan Every mobile game made by Nintendo so far is nothing more than a washed out version of the main series games! Release Animal Crossing for the Switch ir any other game just stop with the mobile thingy
I'd do it but whatever Nintendo Mobile. Continue your region locking and suffer throw low sales and blame everyone but your crappy Mobile gaming policies.
@Alikan They don't own the company in a subsidiary sense. They have a 5% stake. The actual owner is CyberAgent with their 69% stake in the company (rest is owned by Dena). They have big enough ownership to maybe make some suggestions but not enough to make any final decisions even if combined with Dena's %.
They're also not going to stop making mobile stuff since their shareholders keep pressuring them to. It's one of the problems with being public and Nintendo really only being in one field just makes things more problematic.
“[…] by using the in-game currency Diamantium or Wyrmite, players can summon new characters, dragons or special accessories […]”
Oh, so this thing’s a gacha. What a shame.
Don’t do it, kids. Don’t. Even. Start. “Best” case, you’ll get completely addicted to its endless content drip-feed, full-on Skinner box style, and you’ll be consistently milked for your cash to scratch that always-just-out-of-reach gambling itch that you’ll grow to love so much.
“Worst” case, you’ll get bored, or start feeling sickeningly overwhelmed and/or exploited, and chuck it into the trash with prejudice.
Notice that in neither case will you actually be “beating” the game. You can’t, because gachas aren’t really a game as you’d like to believe. They’re just a consistent engagement ecosystem designed to keep you coming back, again and again, in order to repeatedly farm your wallet. A Skinner box, like I said.
@MrVariant: I think I will go ahead and pre-register on the off-chance that I become as addicted to short sessions with it like with Pokemon Shuffle.
I play a ton of mobile gacha games, so I'm super hype for this game. The gameplay looks pretty fun and I love the art. I'm a little worried about multiple types of things in summon pools (Heroes, Weapons, Dragons, cards). I've had some bad experiences in Fate GO summoning multiple craft essences instead of servants before lol. Hope there's some sort of pity system like in Fire Emblem Heroes.
I’ll give it a shot at least!
Done!
Co-developed by Cygames. Just noticed that, and that studio is behind the horsegirl racing and idol management app Uma Musume, and producers of the anime of the same title.
This means one of two things: Westerners could get a release of Uma Musume, or...
