You probably thought we had emptied the well of Breath of the Wild secrets, didn't you? We did too. As it turns out, there were still features we didn't know about.
One such fact has recently been exposed by the YouTube channel Gaming Reinvented, which explained in a recent video that the Champion's Ballad's Blight battles actually get easier with repeated attempts. Who would have thought that Calamity Ganon would be so forgiving?
In the above video, we get a full breakdown of the dynamic difficulty at work. Upon repeatedly falling to the same enemy, the game will provide Link with a range of helpful items to make the next attempt a little less taxing.
After three attempts on a single Blight, Link will start his next run with a Fairy in his items for a quick revival. If he falls another three times (taking the total up to six), the game throws in a meal and elixir specific to the boss at hand to help navigate some of the tricker effects.
It's not a dynamic difficulty in the sense that the bosses get weaker, but it is a nice way of helping those who might be struggling to overcome one specific battle — where's the same setting for Dark Souls, eh?
And it turns out that it doesn't measure attempts on deaths only. As the Gaming Reinvented video shows, you can trigger the repeated-attempt bonuses simply by entering and exiting the battle the required number of times. There are easier ways to get each item, of course, but it's handy to know if you're ever really in need of a Fairy and can't be bothered to go on the hunt.
We'd imagine that this is one of the last 'new' discoveries for Breath of the Wild we'll see, but hey, we're always willing to be proved wrong by a seven-year-old game.
Did you already know this Blight fact? Let us know in the comments.

Just goes to show how good these games are. There are so many secrets within the game, most of which never reach the vast majority of people.
This will be very helpful in Master Mode.
These bosses were pretty meh and some of the weakest and dullest design-wise in the entire franchise
That is a very dull video.
Lowkey the only decent blight battle was thunderblight just because it was really tough to beat. I’m glad people are still playing this game and discovering stuff!
Dang I love BotW
Ya had to bring up Dark Souls
This is WILD, man!!! 😜
@YunoboCo ye fr
@Yoshif3 I agree but the designs were pretty cool at least it wasn’t like tentalus from skyward sword 💀
@Hyrulewarrior true, that was another terrible design. But at least it looked “unique”, not saying that it looked good though.
These blights are some of the most generic bosses I’ve seen though, and hit-sponges too.
@PokemonDMG it's insane.
All the blight rematches were fairly easy EXCEPT Waterblight Ganon. Mipha's Zora gear is awful and it really simulates how rough the fight was for her.
I'm not a huge fan of forgiveness features like this since sometimes I don't want assistance when fighting a boss, but at least it doesn't artificially change the damage values whenever you die like some other games I've seen. You could just use the fairy before the fight or not have any of the food.
I just wish they would turn the game into multiplayer experience, where I could create a random hylian and roam around the same way I do in BoTW (without the sheikah slate obviously or the ability to gain more hearts or stamina apart from food buffs). Im playing the single player game for years now (1300+ hours) so I would definitely go and play that. Original mechanics could stay, no need for quests or story. Just let me roam the world with friends as nameless no hero character and earn my living.
At least if the rumors are true, we will get improved BoTW for Switch 2. If that is correct, Im buying the console just for that.
@StarryCiel
If you are not a fan of forgiveness, I recommend playing the game with permadeath self-impossed rule as I do. Because if you can load the game after a fail, that is as forgiving as it can get.
Meanwhile, TotK was all about building contraptions you would never use (besides the bike).
@rushiosan that’s not true the game is designed to beat it how you want whether you use no contraptions or use them all the time it’s up to you
@Hyrulewarrior Some places are unreachable (or extremely annoying to reach) without contraptions. It's designed to force you use them.
@rushiosan then why did you say you build contraptions you never use 💀
