Gibbon: Beyond the Trees needs more love. First of all: Monkey game. The game also looks like such a fun momentum-based platformer that it seems like a shame that this had to shadow drop with only a ten second segment on the sizzle reel to provide marketing.
Also shoutout to Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. That looks awesome.
Underwhelming, lacklustre, disappointing….all words I’d use to describe the presentation.
That certaintly was an Indie World showcase wasn't it. Not bad.... but nothing particularly wowing either. It was just kinda.... meh?
TABS, Elec Head and Another Crab's Treasure look fun though.
My favorite game was NO GAME WHAT A JOKE
Can anyone name the ones that weren't 2D, Metroidvania or souls like please so I can skip past those trailers
Round up.. you mean it happened already? Sheesh..
Another crabs treasure and soundfall seem fun I’d get them on sale probably and all the rest I’d consider getting with Nintendo points on deep discount lol, overall not bad, just typical indie games at this point.
That crab looks gross
It was an okay presentation. Really weird that Omori, OneShot, and Cursed to Golf got little to no screentime, though.
Some interesting games to keep my eye on for sure. Another Crab's Treasure, SILT and Cult of the Lamb are probably my highlights of this showcase.
Very few, if any, of those games are of interest to me at all.
Gunbrella, the crab game and the monkey game are about it.
What's with all these melodramatic games being released as of late? Feels like a bunch of episodes of Daria and My So-Called Life.
@UltimateOtaku91 I would like that list as well. So that I can ignore the games you're into.. 😏
That presentation could’ve easily not have happened at all and I would’ve been just fine with that. All parties involved should be embarrassed
Very meh for me, the highlight was another crabs treasure.
@Realness agreed! Has there ever been a less exciting time to be a gamer than during that presentation?!
Wait people didn’t like it? I thought oneshot looked interesting.
Not a heavy hitting Nindies presentation by any stretch, but my eye and interest was certainly caught by:
TABS
Gunbrella
Silt
Another Crab's Treasure
Gibbon: Beyond the Trees
Card Shark
I'm surprised at all the salty comments. Several games looked promising to me personally. Particularly:
Another Crab's Treasure
ElecHead
Gunbrella
Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
I can't help but imagine the developers of some of these games looking at these kinds of comment sections and getting totally demotivated because the majority says nothing of interest was shown.
That said, it didn't wow me either, but there were still some interesting games shown!
Mini Motorways... is a tad expensive!
Quite a few interesting ideas. I will likely wait on reviews/sales for the ones I am interested in. But always happy to see unique experiences out there.
This showcase was disappointing. The games didn't really appeal to me, pacing felt off, and I know it didn't have a heavy hitter but it still lacked that "one more thing" magic. That's ok, maybe next time and we always have the big Direct coming up this June (hopefully and with Zelda too!)
It feels like most indie presentations have nothing that great.
Weakest Indie World direct I have ever seen. There has always been at least a couple of games that I have bought from each previous presentation but can't see myself buying any of these.
Extremely disappointing direct, for me at least
@sketchturner
Judging by your profile pic, I think you can figure out why people are disappointed.
Probably the worst indie showcase for me, very little of interest personally…Gunbrella looks great though.
Also not to sound whiney or entitled but these showcases do come with the promise of something big in the way of a “one last thing”, whether that’s a port of an indie hit from other platforms (Ori etc.), sequel announcement or release date for a hyped up game. That’s not on fans to have that expectation- that’s what Nintendo have routinely done with these things. This would have been better served as a random drop rather than a pre-announced showcase because by letting people know ahead of time you’re naturally setting them up for disappointment when they start speculating what the “big” announcement will be in the run up to it. If anything it does the games they do show a disservice when they’re overshadowed by talk of what wasn’t there.
I already pre-ordered a physical copy of Omori a couple months ago 😁
Omori, Elechead, Gunbrella, and honestly Gibbons are my sister’s favorite animal, so call me intrigued.
I felt it was a better Indie Showcase then a few of them, but I still feel like the indies I’ve long been excited for have essentially disappeared for what look to me like… uh… mobile or… uh… Gamepass games. I said it and I’m not sorry about it. It needs to be said.
I was hoping for Tunic, but didn’t really think it would be announced.
Looking forward to ElecHead, Cursed Golf, and SILT.
Yeah, those are indie games. Ugly and outdated graphics as usual.
@kingbk all the kids that grew up on Daria and emo kids are making games now to share their feelings with the world. Lol
I'm as excited as anyone else about Silksong, but at this point I want it to come out just so people will stop being so upset at every indie game that has the audacity to be revelaed before Silksong comes out. Not a lot that grabs my attention personally, but there's some real undeserved hate here. Just a handful of announcements. I really don't get it. Gunbrella and Elechead look pretty neat.
Soundfall is rad, y’all! As a musician I’ve always prided myself on my meter but MAN…this game really makes you work to stay on beat! Once you lock into the groove though, it’s a real stunner and the songs are fantastic. I love roguelikes but NecroDancer didn’t QUITE gel with me, Soundfall sure does though- I’ll be spending a good while trying to get better at it but it’s so fun I don’t mind a bit.
I'm pretty happy with this one. I've been wanting to play both Omori and OneShot for a while now, so it's really nice to see that the former finally has a release date, and that the latter is coming over. Honestly, those two were pretty much the only indies left that I care about that hadn't come over yet, so I'm not really sure what else could have made this much better, unless they somehow managed to get mainline Touhou on the Switch.
@DioBrando Right! Not every game will be for me… and that’s okay. 😊
You forgot to mention Neon White from the JP presentation, it looks great! Easily my most anticipated game from either conference.
Was anyone else deeply disturbed by Ooblets? I actually had to skip over part of that trailer.
I thought soundfall looked really cool but unfortunately I am awful at rhythm games.
I absolutely loved the art in OFK but I also couldn't quite figure out what it was. Is there even as much interaction as a visual novel or is it basically a tv show with episodes?
A couple of the platformers looked like they might be fun but it was hard to judge. Overall, fine Indie Showcase but no games I feel like I must have.
It is kind of sad that I immediately go to Steam to check what others have said about the games.
ElecHead looks interesting,
Nothing here of interest.
My 3 Indie games are Hades, Dead Cells and Hollow Knight, if a game comes out as good as either of these 3, we'd know about it. Unfortunately none of these games will scratch the surface.
Gato Roboto was absolutely phenomenal and Gunbrella looks to possess that same magic, so it's top of the list for me.
I mean I agree with others this Indie Showcase was pretty lacklustre, but I always go in with low expectations anyways so.. meh.
That being said, based on what was shown I think:
That being said, tbh I don’t see myself actually buying any of these except perhaps Omori & Card Shark unless they review exceptionally well and are very cheap.
… Wun can only hope.
Another fresh batch of College Graduates, yay!
Isn't this what killed the music industry?
Only Ooblets that I have interest about.
I thought in general there seemed to be a decent amount of content for a lot of variety of play styles. I mean who doesn't LOVE crabs in games and you get to star and play as one!! WOW!! Mind cap blown off!!! I liked quite a few games in this direct.
Seems like the only Indie Words that get positive reactions are the ones that feature games people already know — maybe adjust your expectations if you expect every Indie World to have Hollow Knight or Sports Story.
Since I love platformers and weird games, there’s about half a dozen interesting games on here, which by all accounts is a good score. Ooblets, Elechead, Soundfall, Wildfrost, Gunbrella, Mini Motorways, Another Crab’s Treasure and Gibbon all look like interesting games to me.
What's up with the neg comments. Keep it to yourself if you have literally nothing constructive to say.
Silt and Gunbrella look good to me.
Gunbrella and another crabs treasure both look great! Undying too, hopefully that is a world wide release.
Not sure what I think of card shark but it has a demo so I guess I'll find out 👍
Honestly quite a few titles stood out to me. Another Crabs Treasure looks fun. The gibbon game seems like a good idea, hopefully we'll executed. Girlfriend immediately bought Mini Motorways (double dipping on it as she played it a lot on her phone). Idol Manager could be lowkey brilliant. And Elec Head seems like a return of indie puzzle platformers, in a good sense.
Indie showcase was disappointing mainly due to my own expectations lol these ganes didn't excite me sadly
I like how half the comments here are "THE THING TTLY SUCKED THOSE GAMES SUCK AND EVERYONE AGREES" and the other half are "I'm really looking forward to ___!" Ugh. Internet. It sure would be nice if people didn't just assume that everyone else hates everything as much as they do.
I managed to catch the beginning of the thing by accident and decided to watch. A lot of games didn't excite me terribly, a few seemed pretty interesting, and the very last reveal of the new OPUS game is something I've been waiting a long time for, so it was the first first-day purchase (i.e. I didn't even wait for a big beefy sale or a Nintendo Life review!) I've made in a long time. But overall, I felt there was a decent enough variety of games that everyone could find something that they liked. Apparently I was wrong because the internet.
Surprised by some of the negative responses here I thought it was a great Direct!
Ooblets - finally!
Batora - could be fun
Elechead - looks fanastic! Day one for me!
Soundfall - looks interesting, I like the concept
Wildfrost - love the art style though the both genres in the mash up are not for me.
TABS - I won't get it but I love that it exists and is now on Switch
Gunbrella - best name. Game looks very fun too.
We are OFK - could be interesting, I like the concept but not feeling it so far
Silt - I'll pass on this one but doesn't look bad
Mini Motorways - I get this one is niche but I'm excited for it!
Wayward Strand - not for me but i like the core concept.
Cult of the Lamb - YES!
One Crab's Treasure - yeah the crab himself is unappealing but the game looks fun!
One Shot - looks interesting, I need to learn more.
Gibbon - looks beautiful
Idol Manager - not for me, looked visually polished but I couldn't tell you if the gameplay looked good.
Card Shark - I've been enjoying the demo, looking forward to this one it's very unique I'd say.
Cursed to Golf - looks a lot of fun
A guidebook to Babel and Opus i honestly don't remember them in the presentation because by this point I already have at least 10 games on my wishlist from this presentation!
@somnambulance I'm sorry but what does "looks like a Gamepass game" mean?
Just looking at the games on Gamepass and there is zero connecting them bar the fact they are a game. You've got Halo , Forza, a Plague Tale, Lost in Random, NBA, Battlefield, Cities Skylines, Bug Fables, Gang Beasts, Frost Punk, Skyrim etc. It's a real mix of sizes and genres both new and old.
I can't find the connection or why you are saying it with such negative connotations?
I suppose Indie games are hit and miss more often than not and they're definitely not for everyone, but that's kind of the point for indie games, isn't it? They allow for a small niche of players to be interested and play something completely different from the mainstream of videogames that use tried and true gameplay elements.
I was quite intrigued by Ooblets, Wildfrost looked like a ton of fun. Gunbrella could scratch my Metroidvania itch at some point or another and there's probably more I'll wishlist, depending on reviews.
I hope Indie developers stay away from comment sections such as these. Their projects are their children and seeing some people here comment so rudely is not fun to read when you've poured in all your blood, sweat and tears into them. Have a little respect.
I liked the look of the simpler looking games:
Gibbon might be fun to swing around.
Card Shark has been anticipated for a while.
OPUS: Echo of Starsong has a 90 on MetaCritic for PC (and it's out now).
@DioBrando You were the first person in this entire comment section to mention Silksong. It’s not purely the lack of Silksong that has people disappointed but the lack of anything heavy hitting at all (which do exist in abundance in the indie space) that left this one feeling underwhelming. Depends who you talk to of course, some might be more excited about what was shown and that’s fine; there are games that have potential to be the next big thing from developers who could be the next big devs, who knows. The fact is that these showcases historically come with something with more guaranteed appeal and this didn’t have that. They shouldn’t have announced it beforehand and just dropped it randomly to save the inevitable speculation and disappointment. You can say people shouldn’t expect anything but I don’t think it’s fair to blame people for having high hopes when past indie worlds have consistently delivered something bigger.
@Ogbert Gamepass can be great. I sub to it, after all, but honestly Gamepass is littered with 5/10 tier casual indie games and bargain bin titles. There’s some classics on there and some big titles, sure, but it’s definitely the Netflix of games, in that the good titles are heavily padded with fluff. Gamepass will be of more value, in my eyes, when Microsoft has more new exclusives to draw from.
Undying from the Japanese showcase looks interesting too, will be getting a western release as well.
@Abeedo not to be that guy, but it's an ape game, not a monkey game I'm gonna give it a go, you never get to play games as a gibbon!
@somnambulance ah so not really anything to do with Gamepass per se, just low budget, which is something Gamepass has a lot of.
I actually don't think that's fair at all, the majority of games shown here had a very high level of polish. A lot of people seem to equate 2D, low poly or stylised graphics as a cheaper option, and sometimes there can be an element of budget to them, but it also takes a lot of work, expertise and care to make them work well.
@Ogbert Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind the low poly or retro style games and I’m sure there’s a market to a lot of these titles and a lot of passion put into them, but most of the titles I saw today… they just didn’t appear to be on the same level as indies we would’ve seen maybe 2 or 3 years ago. There were some exceptions, sure, but I used to buy most of the games in these presentations and this time, I don’t feel that way. I did buy the Gibbons game already though!
Not many grabbed me here despite being an interesting direct. Some ppl mentioned "the crab game", but it looked potentially shallow to me despite being 3D.
What did grab me were:
SILT
OPUS: Echo of Starsong
Card Shark
Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
Mini Motorways
The rest seemed quite similar to games I have seen in the Indie sea before in one way or another. Also some were in genres which aren't necessarily my top choice bar the elite type entries in them.
@somnambulance Really? These all felt way more polished than the average indie title we usually get in directs. The only ones I thought looked a little janky were Silt in a few areas, Wayward Strand's visuals were struggling to achieve what they were trying too I felt, and Opus seemed to have some frame rate issues. The rest look very well polished to me.
OneShot and Omori are critically acclaimed games. Can't wait to replay them. 😁
