You know there was a lot of 'filler' when a Direct that had BOTW2 news, a new Fire Emblem and PIKMIN 4 was still considered only average.
I got basically everything I wanted though so I'm not complaining.
Plenty of content for sure, Goldeneye, Kirby, Fatal Frame and the Zelda release date are the highs for me.
More Beyonetta 3 footage always welcome, and Pikmin 4 for 2023 should be good..
We just need some actual footage of the game to be really hyped..
This article has too many YT videos embedded, my iPhone crashes constantly. Please avoid this in future.
Personally could use more Zelda.
If you're a farming or rpg fan, though, I'd bet today was a good day.
My favourite announcement was that the presentation was over and they were gonna stop showing me farming sims
Decent. Much better than other companies offerings so far this season.
Nintendo is also delivering on the first parties unlike the other two contenders.
Only 4 games I have interest from 36 games above.
Fae Farm
Story of Seasons: a Wonderful Life
Mario + Rabbids Spark of Hope
Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe
Only four games.
Quality was high, but lacked breadth, and Zelda and Pikmin could have really used more footage.
Luckily, I like JRPGs and farming simulators.
@Fizza Average!? Nonsense! All Directs have fluff, but Zelda, FE, and Pikmin alone make this a top shelf Direct.
My favourite announcement was Miyamoto's new T-shirt. 🙃
Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star was the type of quirky random unexpected unapologetically Japanese surprises I hope we continue to get more of lol it was awesome and hilarious... even if it'd have to be exceptional for me to consider purchasing it myself.
We need more of these arbitrary, smaller, cheaper first-party offerings we saw more of during the DS & Wii days on the Switch to keep things varied, creative & interesting (like Pushmo, Super Princess Peach, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis, Photo Dojo, Pocket Card Jockey, Part-Time UFO, BoxBoy + BoxGirl etc.).
Tbh though I'm surprised they didn't use Little Mac & Doc from Punch Out! for this license crossover... but maybe that's a good thing meaning an actual AAA game could still be coming eventually.
Next Up... Zangief's Muscle March!
... Wun can only hope.
Happy to know the date of the first SplatFest is right around the corner. I've been enjoying Splatoon 3 thoroughly!
Nice to see the N64 line-up on NSO being bolstered with plenty of key titles from the console. Still hoping more consoles will be added in the not so distant future, even if they weren't announced today.
Might pick up Rune Factory 3 Special. I really enjoyed playing through the main story for Rune Factory 5. I also have Rune Factory 4 Special, but I've yet to play it.
Nice to see some signs of life for Pikmin 4, although there wasn't much information there.
It's nice to have a concrete release date for Breath of the Wild's sequel, finally, but it's still much further away from release than anticipated.
I think they should round up everything predicted which didn’t happen. No Extra Zelda’s. No GameCube remasters. No gameboy or gameboy advance added to NSO. No Batman collection. No new donkey Kong game. No advance wars silent drop.
@Olliemar28 you missed Factorio!
The entire N64 Mario Party series coming to Switch Online was the big highlight for me. I'm so happy about that.
Way, WAY too many JRPG's and farming sims for my taste, though. The direct was practically flooded with them. Could've been called the Farm Direct, Anime Game Direct or something like that.
@somnambulance I'm right there with you buddy (I personally thought it was fantastic), I'm just going off of the general consensus I've seen online in regards to it
Goldeneye, Fire Emblem Engage, Peach's Garden, Octopath 2 (which may have improved on my complaints from 1), and the Tears if the Kingdom name reveal were my highlights.
I was a little bummed we didn't get Twilight Princess or Metroid Prime... BUT I can't complain since I already own both, so I decided to dust off the old Wii U to scratch that itch.
For me the heavy hitters were FE:E, Front Mission remakes, AWL, Octopath 2, Sifu, and Radiant Silvergun but I liked/am curious about everything except switch sports, endless dungeon, and just dance (I like the concept of the game but I need either a Japanese only version or an 70s,80,90s music version which won’t happen) and goldeneye. Hilariously Zelda, the reason I was watching was a blip since it is so far away. Too much other stuff to buy between now and then. Glad I got my ps5/series x. I am expecting May to destroy me if we get an OLED and CE for TotK. Top Shelf Direct!
DAY ONE: Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Fire Emblem Engage, Pikmin 4, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, and Front Mission 3
DAY ONE PENDING GOOD REVIEWS FOR SWITCH VERSION: Master Detective Archives: Rain Code
INTERESTED, BUT PROBABLY DOWN THE LINE: Front Mission 1 & 2, Octopath Traveller 2, Sifu, Crisis Core Remastered, Radiant Silvergun, Tales of Symphonia Remastered, Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe, Fae Farm, Tunic, and THEATRHYTHM Final Bar Line
So, that's a lot of hits for me.
If you told me in June 2019 that we wouldn't get BOTW2 (TOTK) until may 2023 i would've cried, now 7 months and 4 weeks seem manageable lol
Compare this to other Directs and you'll see this is a very weak lineup of announcements. I can't event give full points to Zelda which barely felt like a reveal.
@Fizza For a Nintendo Direct though, it probably was average. In my book, an average Nintendo Direct is good. I imagine it was too RPG heavy for most people. I think they probably tried to squeeze too much into the 40 minutes. It was kind of the polar opposite of Sony's, where they ramble on and on.
PEACH GARDENS YESSSSS
My favorite part was where Nintendo Life milked a Direct for multiple articles.
Goldeneye 64, 1080 Snowboarding, Bayonetta 3, Kirby Return to Dreamland, Octopath Traveler II and Front Mission.
Definitely something for everyone again. Lots of JRPGs too. Also, I noticed Square Enix’s presence was VERY heavy in the Direct.
@IronMan30 pretty much. Just waiting for one of those articles (or multiple) where the Direct was a letdown for them and they make up some outrage.
I was going to rant about my disappointment but a lot of people seem happy so I'll digress.
@progx the headlines write themselves. The Direct Was Decent, But What if I don't Like JRPG's, Farming Sims, or Zelda? Then the header image is the Mario sad face.
Lots of good stuff. Kinda sad that GB and GBA weren't announced alongside Stadium and Stadium 2 for N64.
Tunic was probably my favorite announcement... but my favorite trailer of the day was most definitely God of War Ragnarok!!!
What’s up with SquareEnix lately? I love their Switch output, but their game names are hilarious. Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy, Various Daylife 😛
@SpaceboyScreams I was mostly disappointed too.. learning about a Zelda game thats more than half a year away doesn't really make it a sweet direct...was hoping for ports for this fall..
I may have fallen asleep 30 minutes in and had to rewatch. Nothing in this direct excited me too much. I'll probably pick up Tunic eventually. Fae Farm and the Fatal Frame game intrigued me (so many Fs). Atelier games always tempt me but I already have too many. Maybe Kirby, but Forgotten Lands is so good, the new remake may feel like a step backwards.
Hahaha, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star. I'll definitely play that to learn how to explode some heads.
Some cool announcements!
Not too many that interest me personally, I have a fairly limited area of interest, but I acknowledge there’s stuff for people who aren’t me to be excited about!
This direct made me look up the progress on my steamdeck order. A great advert for steamdecks if there ever was one.
@wuntyme8 the Switch may not have pushmo going on but the stretchers, good job, part time ufo and Kirby dream buffet sort of cover that realm. I agree though, more quirkiness please! Elite Beat Agents switch, or possibly a crossover with just dance, gotta save the world with your moves, Captain Falcon makes a cameo simply to say his iconic smash taunt then zips away.
I so wish snowboard kids goes to NSO 😅, or Nintendo somehow gets the Patapon games.
Splatfest was the only thing I was stoked about today, honestly. Fine by me though, Splatoon 3 completely rules.
I feel like Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered is getting lost in the shuffle. Now all we need is SaGa Frontier 2 and Unlimited SaGa, and we'll have every SaGa game released in the west on Switch!
I like Miyamoto's P shirt best part of the direct
Really disappointed that there was nothing about Advance Wars. Nintendo have really painted themselves into a corner by linking the delay with war in Ukraine. What if the war goes on for years? Many war games will release and no one will care, while Nintendo is sitting on the most cartoony, unrealistic take on military conflict (which is one of my favorite series of all time).
On another note, super pumped for Octopath 2.
Despite a number of farming-sims I did not receive a Zelda themed farm-sim. Literally unwatchable. 0/10.
Anybody else think Shiggy looks like a super hero in that shirt? I mean he’s GOD but it’s like dun dun da dun… Pikmin Man!
This Direct was about 50/50 for me. Pleased that we got see some more Zelda Tears of the Kingdom footage, bummed out that we still can't play Twilight Princess HD or Wind Waker HD on Switch. Also cheesed off that we saw no Metroid Prime 4 footage or a Metroid Prime HD remaster. Goldeneye unveil was nice though. That's been a long time coming.
There are so many games announced for next year, but curiously few of them are as big as the other spectrum is getting. Only Nintendo is making the biggest games for the console. That's despite the fact there are certainly other big third-party games that weren't here.
The Metroid and Zelda remasters were noticeably absent here though. I wanted to see them, what is holding them to announce them?
Fingers crossed that the Fatal Frame game gets a physical release.
@MarioBrickLayer Good catch! I was excited about Factorio on Switch. Played it on PC and been itching for it to come to Switch.
This direct was long and had a bunch of stuff I didn't care about... But also a bunch of stuff I cared about. Like, I want to call it meh but I got like 6+ things that I'm excited about and a few more that I respect even if they aren't for me. 6+ good gifts is a good Christmas so idk how I can say this direct was anything but good for me.
If they'd only dropped that Wind Waker HD I'd probably be over the moon right now. Guess that makes me spoiled and entitled?
Metroid was the best, oh my mistake no reveal again!!!
@FaroreAbhorsen No, I know exactly what you mean, there were a dew things I liked (it takes two, Tunic, Factorio, NSO, Mario Kart DLC) which is great but it didn't feel like a great direct. I was particularly disappointed about Wind Waker and Twilight Princess as it would now appear they will not be released until 2024 - if ever.
I was really by disappointed by this direct ☹️ Definitely a bad one for me when Pilotwings 64 was the most exciting thing on it. I think in future I might just pick up the news afterwards on Nintendo Life rather than watching it all.
It was fine, but Nintendo really lacks a killer holiday title.
Keeping my eye on FF7 Crisis core for december, but that’s not the kind of game I tend to buy for full price.
Great Direct with lots on offer. Only major concern is Hollow Knight Silksong silence.......its getting silly now
Pffffff soo many amazing stuff.
Man and i am happy that Octopath 2 is coming, what an amazing game that is.
Oof you had to twist the knife in by reminding me that we still don't have a Dead Space collection on Switch 😭 still waiting for the Batman Arkham collection, but was happy to see that we are getting Pokemon Stadium 1&2, Fat Frame, and finally Pikmin 4! Plus, Rain Code looks interesting
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, Ib, Bayonetta 3, Life is Strange: Arcadia Bay Collection and the Resident Evil cloud series is what I'm most interested in that was shown. I was hoping for a release date on the Alan Wake Remastered game though.
@Vil Yeah, I'm more into eroge or what western folks would call dating sims, H games or adult visual novels more than farming sims, lol
@SnackPop It definitely will through PlayAsia. That's where I got my physical copy last year when it came out.
This Direct was great! So many games I'm into.
Bayonetta 3, TotK, FE Engage and Atelier Ryza 3 are all games I'll most likely buy. It was also nice to get a date for the Wave 2 DLC for Xenoblade 3 as well.
Add Sonys State of Play on top of that with more info about Stellar Blade and GoW Ragnarok and it's easy for me to say that yesterday was a good day!
So much stuff and still am I utterly disappointed.
and where is Alan Wake? the only title I am interested for this year realease. did I missed it? do we have a date?
@IronMan30 I do like Zelda and Octopath, but beyond that there was also Pikmin, Fatal Frame as the Americans call it, Bayonetta 3, Mario + Rabbids, and several other great announcements that can give us more "hope" like 1080, Goldeneye, and more than one Gamecube remaster (Tos, Harvest Moon), giving me hope for more 1080 news, if nothing else. Nothing that shakes the foundation of everything we know, but when did that last happen, and how will it happen again if we expect it / are more excited about absurd expectations and disappointed when we don't get them all and more, more, more? So much coming up, so much recent already forgotten, and what still has to come is old news already...
@Shambo it was a packed Direct. I already have a ridiculous Switch backlog and I haven't even bought everything I want, so this just added to my backlog's backlog. Lol
@IronMan30 Even after having stopped day-one backlogging, and wishlisting only getting games at about 80 to 90 % discounts, I still hardly advance through my backlog (I swear it's probably still getting bigger, but at least "my wallet isn't crying" anymore, and actually getting bigger for once as well haha). A ton of games on the wishlist that I'd really want to play, but also a ton that I already have and also really wanted to play but still haven't. We're all spoilt, aren't we...
@ketrac holiday game is Pokemon as it has been for a few years. Nintendo is not gonna dilute surefire sales that also appeal to kids. I would say FE is the grown person holiday game (after one has recovered from shopping for others).
I'm down for the Spongebob, Rune Factory, Harvest Moon and N64 announcements. There's still so many games on the Switch I have yet to play...or even take out of the wrapping for that matter. Looking forward to the new Pokemon, and I anxiously await reviews for Hogwarts' Legacy - which I wonder if it will be a more appropriate purchase for the PC.
@mp_72 That's exactly what I'm wondering. I would expect it come out around Halloween and have the release date announced at the Direct, lol. Guess we'll have to keep an eye on here or on Twitter for Remedy Games.
I hope its not Cloud. When announced they said it will be download.
