Bayonetta 3, BOTW2, Kirby, Splatoon 3 and possibly Metroid Prime 4…..next year is already shaping up to be a great year for Nintendo.
That Direct was a bit on the weaker side due to mostly being about games that we already know about but 3D Kirby is pretty exciting and Voice of Cards looks quite interesting.
Can't wait for Kirby. And might finally play Star Wars when it releases.
Wreckfest on Switch.
That game is heaps of fun
Don't forget about this great racer if you love driving games.
It seems that this great racer has been overlooked by this site sadly.
@HamatoYoshi Pokemon Legends Arceus and Mario+Rabbids 2 too
A fantastic Direct in my book. So much stuff to anticipate, from the oddly overdue-feeling Chocobo GP (after all, it may be easier to say what genres Final Fantasy spinoffs have NOT tackled yet) to the truly surprising comebacks like Actraiser. KOTOR and Shadowrun, Voice of Cards and Disco Elysium, Sin & Punishment and OG Pokemon Snap coming to NSO alongside Sega classics like Ecco (although my Switch is already equipped with many of the others via Mega Drive Collection), a Bayonetta 3 trailer and what looks like the most freeroam Kirby game to date... not to mention a bunch of Castlevanias and a solid release date for RF5. And even Splatoon 3 looks like sporting a single player campaign out the box this time!
EDIT: and Rune Factory 5 release date is not all - the game's officially getting same-sex marriage in time for the western release. What can I say now as a player? Sorry, Ares... nothing personal.😆
I don't get the point of the Mega Drive availability on NSO service. There is a collection with more games already available (and cheap) and many titles are on sega ages.
Geee, that 3D Kirby game sure would have been a nice surprise side eyes Nintendolife
you missed some games like Wreckfest
@HamatoYoshi
> next year is already shaping up to be a great year for Nintendo.
it seems to me like we keep saying the very same words about each upcoming year. but you couldn't say it about current year though, like, it is always the next year XD
What a poor show TBH. Kirby and KOTOR the high points.
Online milking model change the low point.
Not really feeling the “next year will be a great year” same as others. I’m thinking it’s a continuation of the last 18 months which is Ninty doing bare minimum to keep the gravy train going.
@Mauzuri maybe some have different tastes to you. Many of us don’t just like something automatically coz it’s got Nintendo on it.
Like I will buy it all. Obviously. Just not much buzzed me. Will be more games for the shelf that I’ll kid myself I’ll play later
Probably best Direct of the year, good announcements and footage.
Down points what the announcements of announcements, Genesis on NSO when there's already a Sega collection and paying extra for NSO, but I think it will be worth it.
Q : Which announcements were your favourites?
Me : Definetely Chocobo GP. 😃
Also, ACNH Direct announcement, Disney Magical World 2 Switch version.
Kirby Forgotten Island kinda intrigued, i will keep my eyes on it.
@ryancraddock Has Nintendo Life missed the inclusion of Wreckfest on purpose, or am I just imagining it?
@Stocksy I came to believe that "doing bare minimum" is the new slogan for N. this generation XD
The one time I missed the Direct- it looked good...and yeah, we knew about the Castlevania Advance Collection...but ActRaiser was a nice surprise, Shadowrun Trilogy looks interesting, and adding N64 games to the NSO service is good.
Super excited for:
Couldn't care less aboot:
Played the Shadowrun games on PC and highly recommend them. The first one is a really good intro to that kind of RPG with a fairly short runtime and no overly complex mechanics. The other two are meatier.
Kirby
Star Wars KOTOR (that will keep me hook, until the remake is out.)
Voice of Cards,
Mario Party,
Metroid Dread,
N64 NSO,
ACNL Brewster + the Direct
Splatoon 3
Bayonetta 3
@anynamereally I agree, this year has been pretty poor. Apart from Mario 3D World I haven’t been interested in much else.
@nhSnork All the Splatoon games have had a single player mode out of the box. 2 had the additional Octoling expansion on top of that.
Isn’t it a bit redundant to add “more information will be released at a later date?”
“Just to let you guys know, we will mention this game again. We aren’t planning on being completely silent about it from now on.”
Nothing wrong with it, just seems a touch redundant, is all
@Nin10dood I've been holding out on getting it in the vain hope it would come to the switch. Can't wait!
I loved it, I'm i'm totally going for those extra tiers on NSO, I really wish they didn't tho.
Excited for 3d Kirby and n64 on NSO!
Honestly the only thing that got me excited for the Direct was Bayonetta 3 and Castlevania.
@gcunit haha I know I would normally be hyped for that…. But how bad did it look honestly. I though when the first showed it - it was demolition Derby ps1…. Ha
@anynamereally I wasn’t that down on them and previously made excuses for them but last night lol
@Ogbert ah, good to stand corrected here.
@abdias that was my exact feelings. Also two games Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps while not In the genesis collection, they are in collections for their respective series. To me the only games I will play on that service will be Musha and Strider.
@Stocksy you are not feeling it because edits obvious that your nature is just to be negative about such. Oh well, we will enjoy next year while you wallow in your disappointment
I have not been able to watch it yet, and all these roundups don't encourage me a lot. I may have a further look into Actraiser.
Surprised NLife hasn’t jumped on the showing of same-sex marriage in Rune Factory 5, usually someone at NLife would be all over that by now.
Not much for me and some frustration spiking areas. SteamDeck is going to fill a lot of the gaps that Nintendo’s force errors are making. N64 emulation costing more for NSO was the low point.
@Themagusx1 if you knew me that couldn’t be further from the truth. Massive fan of Nintendo and usually go full in… even two SNES controllers when they dropped those. I love the switch. They’ve got lazy. You wanna be an apologist that’s fine but they are doing the bare minimum at this point
The 3D Kirby game looks and sounds amazing. Will definitely add it to my wishlist.
Chocobo GP and Kirby and the Forgotten Land were my two favorite reveals, but there were plenty of others I'm also excited for. N64 on NSO, KOTOR, Splatoon 3, Castlevania, ActRaiser, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, Triangle Strategy, Age of Calamity DLC, and Mario Party all look like they'll be fun! Of course, Metroid Dread looks fantastic too, but since it's just a couple weeks away, I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't here. Overall, I've got a ton to look forward to! The final Smash presentation's exciting as well.
@nhSnork Chocobo GP actually isn't the first Final Fantasy kart racer. It's a sequel to Chocobo Racing on the PS1. There was going to be a 3DS sequel at one point too, but it was unfortunately canceled. I'm personally very happy to see that it's back!
@Stocksy so a new Kirby, new Metroid, several Pokémon games, a Mario and rabbits game, BOTW2, and much more, plus the slew of Indy and third party support is the bare minimum? I don’t buy you being a Nintendo fan, since we are getting a slew of games and more than what I mentioned, it’s not being an apologists it’s a fact, and it seems for whatever reason you get bored easily. Sad really.
Christmas is just getting better and better for my gaming this year. I hope the price hike to play the N64 and MD games is not too high though (however, I will be upgrading for sure)!! My retro gaming has just increased from TMNT in time and Madden 64 to OoT, MK 64 (as well) over the festive season!!! Also, great to see we are starting to get a really good NSO...... FINALLY
You spelt Baeyonetta wrong 🤩
Great Direct for me, filled with everything I expected plus some welcome surprises.
Best surprise for me was the Shadowrun Trilogy. I love the Shadowrun setting but never played these games, and coincidentally was just reading about them on Hardcore Gaming 101 a couple of days ago.
Aside from that, Yoko Taro's new thing looks like a blast. Reminiscent of Hand of Fate but also reminds me a lot of Mage Knight: the Board Game, which is one of the greatest board games of its kind but takes so long to set up and play that it rarely hits the table.
I've been holding off on Mario Golf until they released more courses, so it looks like it's time to buy it now.
Splatoon 3, Bayo 3, Triangle Strategy and Post-Apoc Kirby all look great as well.
And KOTOR! How long have we been wishing for that to be on the Switch? Never got to play that either, so I'm hyped.
NSO finally getting the games I've really been wanting, at a (hopefully only slightly) higher price. Everybody complains constantly about lacking N64 games, now we get those AND Genesis games. Of course they want more money for them, but I don't get how that makes Nintendo evil. They're a for-profit corporation, they offer services for money. Expecting them to just give you things is unrealistic and greedy. As long as the fees aren't exorbitant, I'm in.
This side of the holidays, Metroid Dread, Mario Party, SMT5, N64 Games, Diablo 2 and Kotor on my list with Halo and Forza on gamepass, I'm set.
2022, I don't think I have either the time or money for the avalanche that may be upon us. If 2022 turns out to be the year we are expecting it to be, the Switch will be on fire even up against next gen and that is why Nintendo is in no rush to talk Switch 2.
@VIIIAxel shame on me for having missed that one indeed. But having a new one on Switch is no less awesome for it. Racing games are somewhat less abundant on the platform, so getting a "Final Fantasy Kart" AND a port of Wreckfest announced in one Direct was quite delicious.
Really solid direct with good variety. Felt like there was something for everyone in there.
Great direct imo. Mostly all bangers. I was however hoping for XC, Zelda, FE or RE. I'll manage with the current lineup though.
Strong Direct. I think it can feel underwhelming since a few things were leaked ahead of time, but that's not the Direct's fault.
My biggest disappointment was that N64 and Genesis games aren't included in the base subscription. I understand why, but it's still a little disappointing. Not TOO disappointing; I already own most of these games on other platforms.
@HollowSpectre
It is a great racing game.
I have it on PS4 and it is one of the most fun racers I've played in a long time.
ActRaiser Renaissance was the real surprise for me!
Probably going to give that a spin.
Very good direct for me, with Kirby and the Forgotten Lands, Bayonetta 3, and Splatoon 3 as the big highlights. The only thing missing that I really thought would be present is a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 reveal.
It's a shame that Kirby, Bayo 3 in 2022, and N64 on NSO were leaked ahead of time, because they were genuinely surprising announcements.
Urgh, noisy Internet people unhappy that Nintendo arent debuting trailers for new unannounced mainline Mario, Zelda, MK9 and Metroid with confirmed release dates this winter, with every pre Switch game added to Switch online for no additional fee.. And a foot massage from Miyamoto added for good measure
This was actually really good Direct!
Bayo3, Splatoon 3, Disco Elysium, SW: KOTOR... there's a lot to love here.
One thing I do not understand tho is the announcements of announcements for SSB and ACNH...
Like "hey, we're announcing when we're gonna announce something". Just feels weird man.
the announcements that they would soon have announcements for Smash and AC were strange. Just announce stuff, come on
Also, toss Genesis. Give us GBA games!
That was a long article, which is a good start.
Not sure what more people wanted - well besides more BitW2 and Pikmin 4 - but considering we recently went like 2 full years between Directs and we just had a full one at E3 in June I'd say this one had the games. Maybe too much Metroid for me, slowed the pace down too much, but since most people here seem to be looking forward to it I'm not sure it was necessarily a bad thing.
New Kirby game made it though. Got to have that 1 new game to show, otherwise why have a Direct at all, and they did.
Looking forward to the infographic, next year looks pretty good. You got a calendar planned out yet @Grumblevolcano ? Arceus, Splatoon 3 March, Kirby May, B3 Halloween, BotW2 Nov/Dec. And I think I'm forgetting a couple.
@Nin10dood It gives those classic destruction derby vibes.
@Anti-Matter Probably Castlevania and Actraiser for me. Still on the fence about spending more money on funding Nintendo’s lawyers though.
Diablo II should have been in the direct, but they are cowards, so there’s that.
KIRBY! Very excited
SMT V is out in a couple months and only had a brief spot? Hmm
@BloodNinja Eh, considering what's going on with Blizzard, I'm fine with Nintendo not wanting to bring them up.
One of the best Nintendo Direct I've seen in a long time !
I was totally unaware of any sort of leak, so finally seeing Bayonetta 3 at the end was a really great moment, to me.
The N64 games are a great thing to add to the service, too, but the cost will be a key thing, here. Banjo on the go is a nice touch. Maybe we'll finally be able to see the likes of Diddy Kong Racing, since Nintendo and Microsoft / Rare seems to really like working with each other, now.
Let me dream a little, by the way (even if I know there are legal rights problems, with other parties) : maybe we'll even see Golden Eye on that service ?
Oh, and finally : Star Wars KOTOR. Being able to redo this masterpiece on the go, for me, is way more exciting that the remake promise. So that was a really good announcement, as far as I'm concerned.
I really liked this direct !
Busy news day, huh?
@rjejr I think 2022 will be something like this for 1st party and Switch console exclusives:
Pokemon Legends Arceus and Triangle Strategy are the only ones there with confirmed months.
Good not outstanding Direct as there were very few surprises or actual new announcements. Satisfied with everything. Shame about paying for expansion pack but knowing me I'll probably pay out for it (sorry) & get over it!
Bayo 3
3D Kirby
Triangle Strategy
Star Wars KOTOR
Banjo K
SMT V
were the main highlights but there is truck load of interests for me in there. In fact, probably everything interests me there bar Disney's MW2
Ooof. This one just really missed the mark for me. A new Kirby seems fun and I had basically forgotten Bayo 3 existed (I thought it was Astral Chain 2 in real time until the series namesake appeared). But other than that, it mostly just felt like a nostalgia act and watered down ports. Actraiser made me smile though.
Squinting real hard to see anything on the 2022 Switch horizon I'm really excited about other than BoTW2. Fortunately my backlog on this amazing system will keep me busy for years.
Genuinely excited and happy for all the Switch fans who are hyped up about stuff from this Direct.
@NatiaAdamo I guess! But then they still host all their games on their platform, so there’s the whole silence being a form of betrayal thing going on.
Kirby Forgotten Land, Mario Party Superstars, and the ACNH Brewster Update were all huge wins for me during the event.
Great showing Nintendo. Looking forward to seeing who is the final Smash DLC. Hoping for my boy Master Chief or Waluigi.
@nhSnork Chocobo GP is actually a sequel to a PS1 Chocobo racing game - so they already tackled this genre 20 years ago
Some things were really odd. Like that kirby trailer. "Mummy where have all the people gone that lived in the city?" Hmm.
@Grumblevolcano Thank you very much, sincerely. I's usually my thing but I'm busy trying to remodel my kitchen and repair my leaky roof and oh yeah my long overdue car repair. 😝
Looks good, I completely forgot about Mario & Rabbids 2, that will surely be set apart and given it's own month even though it is Ubi. 6 unannounced games does seem like a lot for 1 year but it is Nintendo so you never know. Hope you don't mind I'm going to have to print that out and tape it to my calendar. Yes, IO still use a physical desktop calendar. But don't worry, no, I won't hold it against you, I asked, you whipped me up something, it is much appreciated. 😁
Maybe we get an infographic in the next few days, I can print that out on the other side. 😉
@HamatoYoshi not a bad direct, but I can’t believe there is no Zelda Anniversary Collection with the 3DS version or OOT and MM. the N64 versions look terrible in comparison.
The new Kirby looks really cool, and I'm not even the biggest fan of the series.
@Znake I also don’t understand why we haven’t got Wind Waker either, it’d be amazing to play it in handheld mode
Gotta be honest the only announcement that intrested me was the monster Hunter dlc and Kirby. I won’t pay 30 bucks to play n64 games when the only ones I want are the Zelda games. But I have a 3ds for that and just for good measure I can play Mario 64 on my switch already
@Stocksy What Themagusx1 said, also want to bring up Splatoon 3 and Beyonetta 3. Even this year, you want to call No More Heroes 3, Metroid Dread, Mario Party, SMTV, FDC 1 and 2, Advanced Wars 1+2, Wario Ware, Mario Golf, and Mario 3d World + Bowsers Fury bare minimum? Then you must never have had the maximum, ever. Though I get that accusation for 2018 and 2020.
Overall decent direct.
(disappointing for intelligent system fans )
But holy moly, 2022 might become a fantastic year for the switch.
Great Direct
Bayonetta 3- it is finally shown so people can stop bugging Platinum when it is coming out.
NSO- N64 games are coming out along with Genesis games and nintendo is uping the price with the expansion pack. It is fine with me.
KOTOR- even though i have it on the xbox, i still would not mind having it on the switch and take it on the go.
Castlevania Advance Collection- That is a treat because 4 additional games plus three different regions equal more games.
4 player online Mario Kart 64?! Sign me up!!!
Bayo 3, the Castlevania collection, Shadowrun Trilogy and Triangle Strategy (ugh, that name aside) are the highlights for me. Curious about a full 3D Kirby game too...as much as I love 2D games, they couldn't do that anymore with Kirby. That formula was run way into the ground, so I'm interested in seeing what's in store.
Anyone who plays MonHun could be certain an expansion was coming eventually, so no surprise there. Sunbreak will be a day one purchase for me.
Couldn't care less about the Genesis and N64 thing. There are other ways to play Genesis games and N64 was my least favorite Nintendo system ever, so that's a big fat meh to me.
I think the botw champions in smash is fairly likely, and aside from a lack of any pkmn news this was pretty great.
@Stocksy ::kylo ren more meme::
@sunny63 BoTW champions or Impa.
