You thought the Nintendo Direct was the last big showcase of June? Oh no.
Physical game specialists Limited Run Games held its annual summer showcase earlier today with LRG3 2024 — cheekily named after E3 (RIP). And with a nostalgic opening, it really set the tone for the whole show.
The 30-minute showcase was fast-paced and packed full of new game announcements and new physical releases. Not every single one of the announcements has a concrete release date, and some announcements are only confirming a physical edition. Still, we've gone ahead and rounded up every single game that's coming to Nintendo Switch from the showcase.
Alrighty, let's travel back in time and check out the bevvy of new (and old) releases from Limited Run Games!

Featuring gameplay improvements inspired by later games in the series, Reprisal is an artful redesign of a stealth-action classic, expertly adapted for Nintendo Switch™.

Dark Forces Remaster and of course Gex Trilogy would be great to have physical for me👍
Beyond Good and Evil too, although as I've completed it on my 360 it's more of a want than a need. I just wished these didn't cost so much... 😕
I'll look into getting Hitman, always thought I would enjoy those games and the other ones are unfortunately cloud versions.
Tomba 2 is... a game. I'm still not sure if I like it, hate it or just fear it. I wonder if they keep the original english voices because holy smokes some of them are embarrassing.
Scrolling down the list and there are a few names I'm interested in. I'll give this a watch me thinks
Who asked for a Bubsy collection? Seriously
Nothing for me, which I’m happy about. No great nostalgia releases, collections or wonder ports to switch. Got confused by Wolfenstein tbh, was thinking it was the New Order, but that one will probably never appear on the Switch.
Still waiting on the physical edition of Chicory which LRG announced last year.
I'm really interested in getting physical copies of Dark Forces and Beyond Good and Evil.
Bubsy sounded a lot like Eek! the cat. I wouldn't have batted an eye if Bubsy said "It never hurts to help!" in the trailer.
Honestly there is more stuff I’m interested in buying in that list than all the other show cases combined. I guess I just like this kind of stuff!
If they partnered with a UK distributor I’d buy loads of LRG’s releases. But as it stands, I won’t be buying any unfortunately.
@liljmoore Who asked for Plumbers Don't Wear Ties?
@liljmoore It's probably just a collection of the first three Bubsy games from the Sega Genesis, Super NES, and Atari Jaguar. As you may know the first three Bubsy games are actually good. Only Bubsy 3D is bad.
You missed 'GHOSTS'
Surprising amount of stuff I’m into! Two Tombas, Gex (the 3D games are terrible but a fun novelty) and Bubsy is kind of in the same camp of interesting/ cringey history.
@KayFiOS @liljmoore The inmates of insane asylums?
I've wanted a Penny's Big Breakaway physical since it launched, but this is ridiculous! The company that published the game is owned by Take Two, the owners of GTA!! They could easily publish a proper, worldwide physical so players living outside NA wouldn't have to pay so much for postage and import fees.
Tomba 1 and 2 yessssss!! I'm so happy now! My childhood is there!
I wish there was a bundle with both, though.
Ngl. Im interested to see what comes of Bubsy as I played the hell out of the first. That said Super Bubsy existed and i wish it was those t they used here. While they say they fixed some isssues, frankly providing hitpoints would have been a major fix along with widescreen to see oncoming threats and not be blindsided. Those would have been gamechangers. Emulation is lazy these days.
GEX i at least played the first one and thought it hadmsome interesting ideas and gimmicks. I remember the day night toon world level especially.
Rugrats looks like an interesting surprise though knew nothing of the original it is based off. Fighting Force i did poay. Its been so long (played a kid) but i thought it was okay
@DarkScythe13 Rugrats is an interesting one, because there WAS no original NES game this is based on. They made a brand new Rugrats game for NES, then also created the graphics and sounds for a 'remastered' version thereof, and are releasing them as one seamless thing.
Would be fun to see a similar thing with other franchises, maybe even including ones that didn't exist back during the 8-bit hey-day.
I wonder why Tomba! was called Tombi! in Europe.
I love LRG's webpage for Gex Trilogy. They don't have a release date, they don't have a price point, but they do have this beautiful and stunning description:
"Gex Trilogy includes Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko & Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko in —but these aren't isn't just re-runs! This Carbon Engine collection includes extras and quality of life improvements to bring Gex back into prime time!"
Last years was way better for me, personally. =). Most of these games I'll pass on. But I'm super excited for everyone who is excited. =)
It's disapointing to see Atari not do this themselves, but not surprising.
Edia doesn't even have a Japanese distribution method now so this makes some sense
An actual Indie game?! LRG still does those?
Ah, one of Eidos' "forgotten children." Apparently, Square-Enix Collective actually tried to do something with this IP before, but the deal fell through. And now we have this; the bare minimum.
Holy carp there's TWO of them?
Another sad insult from Phil Spencer
See Valis
There's a new GI Joe game?
And now the lone good part of the LRG Directs; when their much smarter older Freemode brothers takes over to show what they're making. Jaleco 2's Assault Suit Leynos 2 port finally getting localized is a nice start.
Great to finally see updates on Snow Brothers 3. Hope we see Tatsujin's other project; Tatusjin Extreme again soon.
Great to see BitWave still going strong. We'll see more of this at Sunsoft IS BACK 5 later.
Looking at the timestamps of the show on Youtube, apparently this is where C-Smash VRS appears. Another of Sega's "We Forgot we owned this IP, but someone want to make a new one so we just loaned it to them" projects, but only in VR like Spaaaaaaaaace Channel 5 3. Still a bit miffed Sega doesn't do these themselves, but I suppose that would miss the point.
An expected passive aggressive backhand from Take-Two
An expected passive aggressive backhand from Ubisoft
Timestamps say this is where a Jay and Silent Bob announcment was. I think this is the other game the guys making that Rugrats game from later in the show are doing. That isn't on Switch!?
Well, Troma and LRG both revel in being trashy...
LRG will technically co-own the rights to Hitman when they merge under CDE next year, so by the time this releases in 2 years this will be "in-house" like the aformentioned Clear River trio.
Speaking of Square-Enix Collective licensing; it's kinda sad that Embracer didn't get any of these with Eidos, and now pays to rent them anyway.
Timestamps say there's a Starship Troopers game here. Wait, isn't that owned by Sony?
Yeah, that's not surprising. Hopefully Dragami being a division of Extreme means they signed the deal with Clear River specifically, giving it a wide release at least in Europe.
The really surprising thing about this is that it ISN'T a Wayforward game.
Timestamps reveal something called "Ghosts." What? Is that another actual indie game? That's like... 4 in one show. I think that's a new record.
A nice reminder on Rugrats. This is a "Limited Run Distribution Only" title, and apparently those are the ones that get actual retail releases still. Like the Clear River games, you can just get this at Best Buy.
I can't tell if that was a REALLY bad impersonater, or if Dana Gould just sounds like that now. I hope they have options for the British versions. Clear River should at LEAST make them do that, though I pray they'll do it in Europe so I can reverse import at least.
2025? Really? Wasn't this game already done when they announced it 2 years ago or something like that? Are they really having to wait that long on the gimmicky cartridges?
I'm still scratching my head about this one. WHY Ninja Five-O specifically? Of all the Hudson games, why THIS one?
I'm still mad neither Sunsoft nor Capcom get top billing on this.
Oh look it's Tomba. Hello Tomba.
Oh look, it's Tomba again. Hello Tomba, again!
spit-take WHAT?! I mean, Bubsy is a $#!t-post of an IP at this point, and LRG is the $#!t-post version of Atari's own Digital Eclipse; so giving Bubsy his own, very very sad and pathetic "Gold Masters Series" treatment from the joke of the preservation world is actually kinda appropriate. I actually got complimented for that line by the head of Digital Eclipse marketting on Twitter. I'm considering that an accomplishment.
@GravyThief Clear River is Limited Run's Embracer mandated baby sitter and European distribution wing. Anything anyone in the states could get (for an affordable price), you can get over there directly, and in better condition, from Clear River.
@Semudara that is interesting! That’s like taking the 8-bit Bloodstained games or Megaman 8 or 9 and promoting them in two modes. Hell in essence they kind of pulled off something cool in The Messenger that I thought was neat. I’d like to see more playing around with these sorts of ideas in games.
So... Clock Tower Rewind was delayed again. I hate it! LRG always delays their releases! The same bs happened before with Plumbers Don't Wear Ties: Definitive Edition. I hate LRG for this very reason alone! They always skips their release windows! Also, sucks that Lolipop Chainsaw RePOP's physical release is not a retail one.
Still no release date for Rugrats or Toxic Crusaders? Man, I don’t get how games can be slated for this year and not have a release date at this point.
That is sure a lot of games I have very little interest in!
I am Tomba. I have the fast pants!
Really? They are on Valis Collection 3 and still no Valis X! 😭😭😭
@BlackenedHalo "Tomba" is the Italian word for "tomb". I think that's why they changed it.
I'll pick up Dark Forces and BGaE. Still hoping for Portal one day
@somnambulance I believe they do that so if there's something wrong with the porting process they could delay it without having to say anything. Even now we still don't know if that Suikoden I & II collection is even coming, there is no mention of that at all this year.
Renaine looks pretty solid, with some fun looking combat and cool pixel art. Kind of the only game calling my name here, aside from the obvious Beyond Good & Evil curiosity…
I finally pulled the trigger on Dark Forces while it was on sale. I figured I'd double-dip if they ever got around to dropping a physical copy, and oh my! what a physical it is!
I really want to go for the highest tier if I can swing it in my entertainment budget.
Rain World for me.
Glad I waited.
@Serpenterror I’m not a fan of this approach in the industry. I miss when we knew what was coming out for the year the year before, so it was easy to plan and get excited about what was next rather than this bizarre approach the industry’s taken where there were practically no release dates after June until June. I dunno. I’m old. I need to budget my time. Lol
Games I’d love to see revived for Switch:
-Dracula Unleashed! Come on, if we can get Corpse Killer and Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties, we can get this!
-Tomcat Alley
-The Adventures of Willy Beamish
-The Monkey Island series
-a remake of Clash at Demonhead
Hopefully, one day soon, we get an announcement about a Mega Collection for the Power Rangers.
Every NES, SNES, GB, GBC, Sega game, featuring Mighty Morphin', plus Super Legends.
Make that a Volume 1.
Everything else can go to Volume 2!
Can we get Black and White 1?
I am tempted by Fighting Force. I am sure it plays like hot garbage, but I played that one over and over on N64.
Takes around an hour to beat.
@liljmoore I am convinced that it was Jontron who brought Bubsy back into the public awareness with his video about the series all those years ago, and how bad they were, and it sort of stems from there. It is not a loved franchise, but...sometimes...I feel like even the developers are in on the joke.
@KayFiOS I can laugh at Plumbers don't wear ties.
Bubsy is just an boring unplayable mess
This may sound like a dumb questions... PS games they are emulated with all the nasty texture warp... why don't they just remove this? Keep everything else the same - just add a little bit of polish....
GEX - "Judo chop baby, yeahhhh"
Great selection of games, will eventually get several of these for sure - unfortunately digitally as I doubt they'll get physical releases here in Europe considering it's LRG, but still!
I didn't even know that Gimmick 2 was a thing! Nice!... I'll get digital.
Well, there goes any hope I have of getting Penny's Big Breakaway, Lollipop Chainsaw and Rugrats physically.
It's a big shame the Dark Forces remaster physical edition won't be available in Australia.
Some exciting games here, but most of it does not have a release date or says 2025 🙃
Fighting Force, Gex, Tomba, Clock Tower, Fear Effect, Hitman, Lollipop Chainsaw, Beyond Good & Evil and Penny's. A lot of great content here.
Luffymcduck wrote:
The thought never crossed my mind that a Gimmick! sequel could even be a possibility!
Yeah, all the horror stories have scared me off of even contemplating getting an LRG release physical. But I'll gladly scoop up their digital offerings.
