Nintendo made up for its lacklustre E3 showing yesterday with a Nintendo Direct that harkened back to the glory days. We had massive first and third-party games announced, upcoming huge expansions for our current favourites, and a closer look at a few games we really didn't know much about.
But enough of being coy – in this guide, we're going to round it all up bit by bit. So if, for whatever reason, you missed the Nintendo Direct, you can catch up on all of the exciting happenings below. It's also well worth a read for any that did see it, as we'll get into a bit more detail about a few of the announcements.
You can also watch the full Nintendo Direct below if you want to enjoy both at the same time.
Nintendo Direct - 3DS Announcements
Don't own a Switch or love your 3DS to bits? Don't despair – Nintendo isn't anywhere near done with it just yet. In fact, the Nintendo Direct opened with a bunch of 3DS announcements that you can read all about below.
Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn - Launching 2019
2010's Wii hit Kirby's Epic Yarn is coming to Nintendo 3DS as Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, complete with all stages. New in this version is additional abilities, allowing you to craft bigger yarn balls than before or use gusts of wind to pull in difficult-to-collect coins.
There's also a brand new 'Devliish Mode', which challenges you to outrun some kind of devil trying to ruin your day, and some new minigames. These are actually more exciting as they sound, as they allow you to play as your favourite Kirby characters like King Dedede and Meta Knight.
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey - January 11, 2019
We got one step closer to having the entire Mario & Luigi RPG saga on Nintendo 3DS yesterday with the announcement of Bowser's Inside Story coming to 3DS. Nintendo likes to give you a little extra though, so has included a spin-off story, Bowser Jr.'s Journey. You'll build an army, select a battle formation, and try and be as good (read: bad) as Bowser himself.
Luigi's Mansion: Co-Op Mode - October 12
We already knew the original Luigi's Mansion was coming to 3DS, but what we didn't know is that it would include a 2-player co-op mode! If you and a friend both own Luigi's Mansion on 3DS, one of you can play as a hideous green ghost-like Luigi that looks like one of those Army Men figurines. Don't both own the game? You can still play boss battles together by using the gallery and download play. amiibo support was also confirmed.
Yo-Kai Watch Blasters - Out Now
Yo-Kai Watch Blasters is a co-op battler set in the Yo-Kai Watch universe. It will get a free content update on September 27th.
Nintendo Direct - Switch Announcements
Nintendo announced a whole bunch of Switch games and content updates during the Nintendo Direct, and we'll round them all up below.
Luigi's Mansion 3 - Launching 2019
Nintendo opened the Direct with the exciting news that Luigi's Mansion 3 is in development for a 2019 release on Nintendo Switch. Details are incredibly scarce though. We only really got a look at the franchise looking absolutely gorgeous in HD for the first time.
Splatoon 2: Ver. 4 - ?
Splatoon 2 will get another huge content update soon that introduces a whole bunch of new cosmetics, weapons, and a new mode.
Mega Man 11 - October 2
Mega Man 11 is a brand new entry in the side-scrolling platform shooter that's celebrating it's 30th anniversary. You have to defeat eight robot masters and steal their special weapons. The double gear system is new as well, and it supports the amiibo figures. Welcome back, Blue Bomber!
Mario Tennis Aces: New Content - September 19
Just like Splatoon 2, Mario Tennis Aces is about to get a very welcome content injection. This includes four new characters: Birdo, Shy Guy, Koopa Paratroopa, and Petey Piranha, all of which you'll unlock online. Nintendo will apparently release more new characters between now and June too.
There's also co-op challenge, a new mode that provides a bunch of online missions that are only available for a limited time. Beat them to unlock new outfits, colour schemes, and more.
Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle: Final Fight, The King of Dragons, Captain Commando, Knights of the Round, Warriors of Fate, Armored Warriors, and Battle Circuit - September 18
Capcom is releasing a lovely collection of beat 'em up classics that includes the seven titles listed in our header. Each support four player multiplayer and online play. You can pre-purchase the Capcom Beat 'em Up Bundle right now.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - January 11, 2019
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is coming to Switch in a deluxe format that bundles New Super Luigi. U in for good measure. Nabbit and Toadette have also been included as playable characters. Nabbit doesn't take damage from enemies, which is perfect for young'uns, and Toadette can turn into Peachette if she grabs the super crown. This lets her double jump, float slowly, and recover from a fall. It supports four players, with each requiring only a single JoyCon.
Katamari Damacy REROLL - Winter 2018
Katamari Damacy REROLL has been remastered in HD for Nintendo Switch. You have to play as the prince and roll up the mess caused by the king. It sounds boring, cleaning up someone else's mess, but Katamari has found a way to make it insanely addictive. The Switch version includes gyro control, HD rumble, and multiplayer battles.
Switch NES Controllers
Nintendo Switch Online includes NES games so Nintendo has seen fit to introduce NES controllers for your Switch. They cost $60 for two, work wirelessly, and charge by attaching to your Switch when docked.
We also finally learned which games we'll be able to play at launch, and over the coming months.
Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu! and Eevee!: Console Bundle and New Features
We got a look at some not all that exciting features coming to Pokémon Let's Go. Your partner Pokémon (Pikachu or Eevee) can acquire Secret Techniques that help you better navigate the world, from chopping down trees to surfing across the ocean waves. They can also learn special battle moves that are pretty powerful.
Oh, and you can also stroke them in a variety of different ways in handheld mode to change their haircuts. Ridiculous.
Nintendo is also releasing a new bundle that includes a customised Nintendo Switch console with Pikachu and Eevee inspired controllers, decals on the Switch and dock, and the game and Pokéball Plus accessory included.
Diablo III: Eternal Collection - November 2
We got this news just after the Direct was delayed last week, but Nintendo revealed a November 2 release date and a Ganondorf armour set for Diablo III Eternal Collection.
Super Mario Party - October 5
We got a closer look at Super Mario Party. There were new minigames, a four player co-op mode, and a cool game that requires you to connect your Switch systems together in a variety of ways. There's also the trademark board game mode, single player modes, and online modes.
Town: A New Game Freak RPG - 2019
Town (working title) is a brand new RPG by Game Freak, the makers of Pokémon. It's set entirely in a village that's besieged by monsters, and it's up to you to defeat them using a variety of skills. It also seems that you can enlist the aid of pretty much any villagers to defeat the monsters.
Cities: Skylines - Out Now
This is another game we already knew about – Cities: Skylines is coming to Nintendo Switch. It includes all of the DLC up to this point, and it's out right now.
Daemon X Machina - 2019
Daemon X Machina sees you play as a mercenary who pilots a powerful suit known as an Arsenal to beat up runaway AI. Beat enemies and you can acquire their parts, and can bring them back to your base to suit up your Arsenal for future missions. You can have a variety of weapons, from ranged to melee, and can exit your Arsenal if need be while on the battlefield.
You'll level up and unlock a variety of perks, take part in four player multiplayer to defeat massive bosses, and have a bunch of explosive fun.
Yoshi's Crafted World - Spring 2019
That untitled Yoshi game now goes by the name Yoshi's Crafted World, and it looks incredibly cute. You'll work your way across a handcrafted world, chucking eggs at stuff, turning the stage on its head, or simply changing the perspective. It's a fun way to track down hidden collectibles.
You can also play courses backwards to unlock even more stuff, provide new challenges, and see how some stuff works behind the scenes. Yoshi's Crafted World supports two player. It launches on Switch in Spring 2019.
Asmodee Digital Board Games - Various
Asmodee Digital announced that Carcassonne, Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game, and Pandemic are coming to Switch between now and March 2019. Catan and Munchkin were also announced for a future release.
Sid Meier's Civilization VI - November 16
Again, we already knew this, but Civilization VI was announced for a Nintendo Switch release, including four player local multiplayer. Check out the first trailer here.
Starlink: Battle for Atlas: More Characters Announced - October 16
Peppy, Falco, and Slippy will provide Fox McCloud with support on the exclusive Nintendo Switch missions in Starlink: Battle for Atlas. We also got a look at Wolf as the bad guy, which was pretty cool.
The World Ends With You: Final Remix: New Story Segment - October 12
The World Ends With You: Final Remix features a brand new story set in a remixed Shibuya. It challenges you to escape the area within 24 hours, or face erasure. Sounds nasty!
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country - Out Now For Expansion Pass Owners
If you're an expansion pass owner, you can play Torna ~ The Golden Country right now on Nintendo Switch. Those wanting a physical copy of the standalone DLC will still have to wait until September 21.
Various Nintendo Switch Release Dates Announced

Next up we got a glance at a bunch of Final Fantasy games coming to Nintendo Switch! We saw Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered with online multiplayer, Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition HD, World of Final Fantasy Maxima, Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy, and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. VII, IX, X, and X-2 were also announced for 2019.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch Bundle - November 2
Pokémon Let's Go isn't the only game getting a Nintendo Switch bundle, as Nintendo announced the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch. It features the full game, a dock with various Nintendo characters on it, and special Joy-Cons. Check it out here.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Isabelle
Nintendo also trolled us all super hard. We saw Isabelle doing a bunch of work in her office and we thought "hey, a new Animal Crossing!" and weed our collective pants. It turns out that this was simply Nintendo announcing that Isabelle will feature as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate...
New Animal Crossing! - 2019
But that's not all! We also got a special announcement right after in which Tom Nook announced a brand new Animal Crossing coming to Switch in 2019! That's all we know right now but thank everything that Nintendo saw sense enough to finally give us a new Animal Crossing!
What did you think of the Nintendo Direct? Is 2019 shaping up to be the most exciting year for Switch yet? Let us know in the comments section below, or get involved in our opinion poll.

Yes, of course !
My Wallet !!
My Hype !!
Nintendo Switch is the Fastest & the Best Nintendo machine so far in term of amount of games i want to play.
Even my 3DS, NDS games cannot beat the growth of Switch games.
Still ecstatic over that Direct yesterday! SO much goodness coming our way!!!
Don't have a lot of positive stuff to say but I'm hyped for Animal Crossing
My hype level is pretty low despite looking forward to Capcom Beat em up, NES games, Starlink, Megaman 11, Super Mario Party, Pokemon Let's Go, Smash Bros Ultimate, Civilization VI, Animal Crossing, and Damon X Machina. Probably because I knew about all of them before the direct cept Capcom beatemup. "NES games were a given as was a new Animal Crossing eventually." Nothing blew me away, but glad there was a nice variety for everyone. Especially RPG fans. Goodish direct.
MUST. HAVE. MORE. DETAILS. on Animal Crossing Switch!!!
I'd love see Remakes of Capcom Beat 'Em: Final Fight, Captain Commando and Knights of the Round.
They could remake it with the same fighting style like Batman Arkham series and modern graphics.
I would love to see Captain Commando in a new gen console, that game was so much fun!
Ninty could finance that game to get an exclusive
There's a couple of things in there that sparked my interest. The biggest one is that new Animal Crossing game. Provided it is not a port of the mobile game (they said "new game" so... I hope).
The Capcom brawlers collection is also very interesting.
As is Luigi's Mansion 3, and New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. And Diablo III but that was alreayd announced. And everything Final Fantasy too. That's great.
This article forgot to mention that crappy paid online service and it's 5 key features, actually 4... Nintendo refused to elaborate on the last features.
Very hyped for most all the announcements.
Though it seems as though you used both the wrong picture and wrong date for the Super Smash Ultimate Nintendo Switch Bundle portion of the article. You listed Nov 2 (should be Dec 7?) and showed the Smash limited edition bundle rather than the Switch bundle.
All that Final Fantasy will be mine. I never owned a Vita but FFXHD was the one game that almost convinced me to grab one. I am glad that I can now enjoy on the go for the bajillionth time. Can't wait.
Side scrollin' brawls, all the FFs except Squall's.
Such a good Direct. but the main thing is I can finally stop asking for Katamari Damacy…
...just Super Monkey Ball to go lol.
The only thing I see is : 20 ports in 1 Direct...
I'd like to be in the same state as some dudes here but it's not the case at all.
I didn't know when I bought my Switch that I was buying a retrogaming console, I thought it was a brand new home console with a portable factor... :/
It was a good direct. Only thing that I really want to get is an update from retro studios. Also because of the rumours that it's not going well with the company
Oh and the awful online service was mentioned and you guessed it........it's actually worse than we thought.
I'm more and more realizing I'm still part of the PC Master Race. So much of what I loved of Nintendo in the past isn't even rumored to be coming.
Where's remasters of Chrono Trigger? LoZ: Link To The Past? Earthbound? Double Dragon? Duck Hunt? (I want a light gun! NOT NES controllers) Or some sequels at least?
No Switch Sports? A Punch Out game?
Whatever happened to Mortal Kombat?
How bout we fix Fortnite so you can actually logout?
Can we get some AI in Mario Kart so you can actually win when you're the fastest driver?
I used to set records on SNES and I lost to my 9 year old yesterday. Endlessly getting hit by red shells. lol
I'm sure I'll get roasted... But somebody has to be with me on this no?
Just have to suck online up. It's not like it's something Nintendo invented.
Great direct. Weejeez mansion 3
Crafted world
Beat em up bundle
Mario party
Smash
No more money left
I said this one other time, but the Direct was better than all of E3 2018 combined and that’s just facts!! So so happy
"New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe"
I wish they could get rid of the "U" and used "Switch" instead. Though they need to punctuate that it is the game from the Wii U.
@Nater I'm assuming you're taking about MK8/MK8D. The AI is fine. I'm terrible at video games and I've 3-starred every cup, 50cc-200cc.
After a phenomenal 2017 the first half of 2018 was a little lacklustre (imo).
Now though, 2018 is finishing strong and next year is looking excellent already.
Wish Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was included in the Capcom Beat em up collection. I'll happily purchase it though. Time to get a bigger SD card.
I think the Direct was great!
But my poor wallet...
I'm more hyped for Daemon Ex Machina and Yoshi now, and I'm looking forward to New Super Mario Bros and Luigi's Mansion 3.
@antivirusftw
I think it's dumb. There's next to zero point to drive fast for a good track time.
Hanging back in 2nd place with a red shell in my pocket until right before the finish line isn't fun for me.
I'm looking forward only to Yoshi and AC.
@Deadstanley Yeah, it's a lovely game. Simple, but fun and full of charm!
Smash Bros Ultimate, Pokemon Lets go, Starlink, Civilization 6, Mario Party and Super Mario Bros U deluxe
RIP My wallet
And yet people complain about switch's momentum this year
Now why the hell couldn't this have been their E3 presentation? Nobody would have talked about anything else afterwards.
Great Direct. Yoshi looks great, Daemon x Machina looks very good, Luigis Mansion and Animal Crossing got announced along with a new IP from Gamefreak. The port complaining looks more ridiculous all the time.
Katamari, The Capcom beatemup Collection, Cities and all the Final Fantasy games are welcome additions to a fast growing library.
Shame the Online looks a bit of a shambles but overall, good times.
Cities Switch review, anyone?
Might want to reflect in the article that the NES controllers are for Online subscribers only, and can’t be purchased during a trial
@Nater "Whatever happened to Mortal Kombat?"
I don't understand this question. Mortal Kombat X was released not too long ago and XI should be revealed soon-ish. Or are you asking "why is Mortal Kombat not on Switch?"
Since my wish regarding Final Fantasy VII, IX, and X being ported to the Switch has come true...
Now crossing my fingers for The Legend of Dragoon. 🤞🤞
Yoshi looks cool. Daemon x Machina is a definate buy. I wish it had split screen though.
Can't wait for ff7.
What's the problem with releasing a new Pikmin? Seriously. Every Direct I build up my hopes and they're cruelly dashed.
They could say it during the Direct... My god this is ridiculous.
https://nintendosoup.com/you-need-to-be-online-every-7-days-to-play-nintendo-switch-online-nes-games/
@Nater Double Dragon NES is coming on the Switch Online next month. If you are looking for new Double Dragon, the lastest one is already available on the eshop right now.
@Cobalt
Pretty much on point. But people on these forums will see it so differently
I am hyped about the Gamefreak game. Is that maybe the origin of pokemon, how it al began.
I’m liking Luigi’s mansion 3 (I have this feeling it was originally for Wii U and got canned cuz the system sucked, and they held off forever to release it lol) I’m also happy about animal crossing and interested in the new gamefreak title. 2019 is shaping up to be good, 2018 will mostly be a year to forget in my opinion.
There goes Tom Nook being playable in SSB. Not that I was looking for him anyway
As usual, thanks for the summary!
I really enjoyed the direct. Lot's of great announcements that I'm excited about.
Those controllers seem expensive to me, but I'll probably buy them.
I'm kind of done with the art style for Kirby and Yoshi games lately.
A lot to look forward to and, as always, a little to confound (online). That's Nintendo. Take it or leave it, I guess.
I really hope Starlink is good. Toys-to-life is not a great model for consumers. I'd love the digital pricing to be announced. I should really wait for reviews and wikis on how to get the most out of the game from the lowest cost, but I probably won't.
Yoshi and LM3 are definite buys. I liked the Megaman demo too and I've never played that before so may jump in there.
That's a bit more like it, Nintendo.
@Cobalt So Luigi's mansion 3, the new Animal Crossing game, the Yoshi's world, and Super Mario Party count as ports to you?
Seem like new games to me.
Luigi's Mansion 3 was a great way to start, Animal Crossing was an even better way to end. Everything in between didn't interest me except for FF VII and Mario U. I was somehow shocked but also not shocked at all at how bad the online portion was. They said nothing we didn't already know except for the special offers which they needed to say something about but didn't.
Also while I'm happy about Mario U, since all the NSMB games are good in my opinion, I'm really disappointed they didn't make a collection of them instead. I'd like having the original, Wii, 2, and U all on Switch.
I'd love a 3D collection too with an HD 60fps version of Sunshine, HD versions of Galaxy 1 and 2, and 3D World.
Town seems interesting. From the description they gave, I'm thinking Game Freak is going to use the game to experiment with the Pokemon move system without having to take the risk of changing up a core Pokemon game. Hope the main character is customisable, though.
Other than that, Civ 6 might be a purchase for me, but only if the Strategic View is still in (they removed it from the mobile port), and being able to play FF9 and 12 also intrigues me. Oh, and Capcom Beatemup Bundle! I love me some classic beatemups!
@Curlybobs Pikmin 4 been confirmed by Miyamoto to be in development since 2015. Probably not ready yet.
@FoxyGlen this is a digest of the Nintendo Direct, so why not call it a Direct Digest?
The direct was pretty cool, and I'm way excited for Munchkin.
They still blew it with, "Nintendo Switch Online." The service launches in less than a week and they still want to play coy on some of the details. Kind of embarrassing, really.
Not a single triple A game announced
@ClassSonicSatAm They don't...

So, 20 ports on 1 Direct... Period !
It was good and as an rpg fan I felt I had died and gone to heaven
Sooo..... Capcom. How about that Darkstalkers update? C'mon guys, it would rake it in. I have money...
@ClassSonicSatAm
You forgot town ,daemon and Japan had some good stuff as well
Only thing I truly cared about, is Isabelle being in Smash and a new Animal Crossing game. Isabelle hype!
@Nater Or use that shell/banana to shield from incoming projectiles and that mushroom or super horn to dodge blue shells. Items are part of the game, they're not insurmountable.
I was very happy with the direct - especially Katamari.
@Cobalt We’re all tired of reading your complaints over and over. Get some new material. Some of us are quite gracious to have PlayStation ports on Nintendo hardware. I’ve been waiting for 14 years to play Katamari on Nintendo. Even longer for FFVII. Different strokes for different folks.
@Cobalt i swear, everyone here is either shilling out to nintendo or just really, really likes ports. a jpeg of the animal crossing logo didn't save it for me
Really need them to bring star tropics to nes online though. Id love to have 1 and 2 on the go. Played through half of 1 but never finished it. If i can get it portably, I'd finally be able to see it through. Add some story driven games please!
Pretty much changed nothing.
Nintendo holding the line with Smash and Pokemon (already knew) and after - a bunch of 2nd tier stuff and more rehash. 2018 in a nutshell.
Unless you a super fan of fighting games - There is better stuff to play elsewhere for the rest of 2018. Especially at the $60 mark.
just in a holding pattern till 2019 on Switch... Why I never put all my eggs in only the Nintendo basket.
@Cobalt @Mew so tired of these complaints. Glass is half empty mentality. You see only new games that don’t interest you and see the ports as if those are the main dish for the Switch. Why did you even buy one? You knew the last gen games would not run on it, at least i did. I have it for the first party games i knew would come and all the ports are happy extra’s for me. If i want to play RDR2 or Tombraider or Spiderman i get a ps4 pro. For the rest i am happy i can CHOOSE the platform i want to play a game on and if i already played it before i do NOT have to buy it again but others can if they want.
Let people be happy with the news provided and the additional choices they have been given to buy games if they want and keep in mind that this is a fan site. Being critical is good (yes online sucks and there is a lot they should improve) but complaining for the sake of complaining gets old very quick.
I need to remortgage my house for all these games.
@Cobalt Well, I guess I would have lost them if up and runing. Last time I turned on my Switch was for the MM11 demo. And not picking it up again till Torna.
@Macalos Tom Nook is coming to help you with that, too!!
@GrailUK you know I’m with you on that! Made me think: how about an open world MB game? Sorta marble madness meets Breath of the wild
@Drussa This is funny because you have the right to be tired of people who just point FACTS that on 34 games there are 20 ports but you don't understand that MAYBE other people are tired to see that some players encourage the cancer that ruin creativity in modern video games.
Because YES, people like you who defend all these ports and BUY them, you're gonna get what you deserve in some years... meaning ONLY PORTS.
Video games is probably your passion but it's a business...dude
Do you remember some years ago when a lot of Nintendo fans explained how different it was on Nintendo platforms because of original games and different state of mind etc... ?
Look how it is today... I even don't have to demonstrate anything because it's so obvious...
In case you don't get the message, just tell me when in the Nintendo history after less than 2 years a NEW system had more ports than exclusive new games for it from Nintendo ? When ?
So I let you think about the future now, because if today it's already like that, what will be the next step ? 80% of ports ?
You know, I have nothing against ports but only if on the side of them there is a vast choice of new titles. Let me tell you that it's sadly not the case...
@Cobalt
Or more importantly, this...
“CLOUD SAVES ARE DELETED AFTER NINTENDO SWITCH ONLINE MEMBERSHIP EXPIRES”
https://nintendosoup.com/cloud-saves-are-deleted-after-nintendo-switch-online-membership-expires/
WTF?!?
At least Sony allows some time to lapse before you lose them.
@KIRO Imagine being able to tilt a map the size of BotW to roll a marble! Insanity I say.
@Cobalt you are correct, you state facts, and dont think i dont see them also. I just look at it differently. As i mentioned, the ports are an extra for me, giving me extra options (and no, i do not buy them all but did get some because i like then and wanted to have them to be able to replay them on the go). I get the feeling you just dont like the fandom some are giving to these announcements but to call it cancerous is going to far but that is my opinion
@Cobalt
You're not entirely wrong......
I'm personally happy about some of these ports, but let's face it: Nobody was expecting this console to be primarily a port machine with some new games on the side (it should be the complete opposite instead).
And sadly, I can already see more and more developers jumping on the bandwagon. Don't be surprised later on when you see Torchlight, Silent Hill Collection, No More Heroes 1 + 2, Far Cry 3, and many more on the Switch. The list will go on and on, with the occasional new game in between.
I'll always love the Switch, but it will (probably) be a console led by developers who just couldn't be bothered much.
@Cobalt
Ports ?
Who cares !
I almost crying when i saw World of Final Fantasy Maxima, FF XII The Zodiac Age, FF X/X-2 HD will be on Nintendo Switch.
They were NEVER been on Nintendo machines.
If they were ports from PS4, you should be granted.
What made you denied those ports ?
@Drussa If you read well, I said "MAYBE other people are tired to see that some players encourage the cancer THAT RUIN CREATIVITY IN MODERN VIDEO GAMES."
The meaning of my sentence was more like :
-Who's gonna care to create something new if ports sells like cupcakes ? ^^ Hope it's clearer...
I said too : "You know, I have nothing against ports but only if on the side of them there is a vast choice of new titles."
Basically, if on 34 games 20 are ports, 7 are multiplats and 7 are originals, I think the logic would be 20 originals, 7 multiplats and 7 ports... then NO PROBLEM...
@Kang81 Well, SONY also lets you save them locally on a USB drive.
I archive my big saves (Ninokuni2, Monster Hunter World, Nier, Nioh, Persona, H:ZD, GOW, AC:O Etc) on the cloud and USB.
Regardless of PS+ delete time, my saves are safe.
@diablo2
You're right. I'm really doubting about the future if it continues like that.
When you know how expensive it is to make a game today, hummm... big developers are gonna choose the "ports way" because it cost 100 times less to make.
If we want this industry still alive in 20 years, I think it's important to make sure that new productions (indies, AA, AAA, Whatever...) still come. Just imagine yourself at the head of a big company.
-Choice 1 : invest 10 000 000 to make something new that could potentially flop.
-Choice 2 : invest 100 000 to make a port that be certain to be profitable.
Easy to choose, isn't it ? Espacially when you can finance 100 ports for the price of 1 big AAA...
@Anti-Matter I'm happy for the people who never played those, but like I said, somebody like me played these games already...
Ports are not bad but ONLY when they are an "option" aside of real new exclusive titles...
Basically, some ports here and there, that's fine but when you start to see that the majority of the games shown ARE ports, then it's not good, not good at all...
I was surprised with the direct. I’m looking forward to playing the Capcom arcade games and the FF ports.
Chocobo’s!!🤩
@Cobalt
Not good ?
For me it's awesome.
I got some nice ports from PS4 (Portal Knights, Overcooked, Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles), from Wii U (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, LEGO CITY Undercover, Pokken Tournament DX), from Wii (Go Vacation), from older consoles (Street Fighter 30th Anniversary).
I have EVER played those games on their machines, but i don't mind to Replay them again on Nintendo Switch.
Btw, with a lot of ports from especially Sony machines (PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1), i have a reason to SOLD my PS4 since i lost my Hype to play my beloved games on PS4 lately. I can stick on Nintendo Switch version.
I'll be honest with you folks, I never tried my hand at any of the major franchises with new titles mentioned. Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi, Animal Crossing. From what I've seen from footage or what little experience I do have, never appealed to me all that much. Well, that was in the past. Moreover, allow me to provide another piece of honesty. I am sick and tired of Mario and Zelda after repeated playthroughs and I just need something new. Yoshi's Crafted World in particular fascinated me with its gorgeous art direction and with it being a platformer. I'm not going to deny my admittedly biased adoration for platforming games, but I honestly can't wait for it.
Oh! But my enthusiasm reaches its logical maximum for one title in particular.................................... Team Sonic Racing
@Drussa i'm not complaining for the sake of complaining-- and i love my switch. just very disappointed in this direct.
@Cobalt yeah, i agree. i wanted something to get excited about.. most of these games that i want to play i already own somewhere.
The NES controllers tell me that we won't be seeing SNES games anytime soon because while SNES controllers will also work with NES games, NES controllers will not work with SNES games.
Of course I care about Starlink and Daemon X Machina, but of all the new announcements, Luigi's Mansion 3 is the only one that I'm hyped for. I don't care for Final Fantasy or Animal Crossing. I was actually hoping Nintendo would show more about Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta 3. Maybe they'll show at TGS, but I doubt it.
@Cobalt This is a very good video on why ports to Switch aren’t that bad:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7CkQskMZUBs&t=307s
Edit: Sorry for some reason the link puts the video 5 minutes in.
I always thought of ports as a way to get the Switch caught up to where other consoles are now, so they never bothered me,
@Crono1973 I would be interested to see how many people fork up cash for them considering they're a subscription based accessory that will be useless when you cancel your subscription. But seeing as though it seems like an easy way for Nintendo to make money off them I think that's the main reason why they're offering them, Not so much that it's a sign of things not to come. Because if snes games do come to switch they'll do the same thing and sell them. Based on that leaked photo showing nes controllers and snes being synced to the switch and that coming true with the nes controllers Nintendo is offering, it makes me think that much more that they'll bring snes games over in the near future.
@AirHawke The bundle does come out on Nov 2 but that is the wrong one. It just comes with a download code for when the game comes out.
Totally agree " Nintendo Switch is the Fastest & the Best Nintendo machine so far in term of amount of games i want to play." +1
We already knew about Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey.

Contrary to what NintendoLife wrote in this article, the news about this title with this latest Direct was confirmation of a release date rather than an announcement of the project.
The moment I see FF 10 I'm in for the Switch for real for the first time!
@Cobalt And you have to remember alot of these past home console games have not been release in portable form (HD portable form might I add) No one seem to mind when this happen in GBA era where nearly all the Mario games were just ports of the NES/SNES era (as well a ton of other ports of SNES games, because the Game Boy could handle them) not to mention the HD Ports the PS3 and PS4 both had of past gen games. 20 games other games alongside the brand new ones we getting plus there's an new Pokemon game next year aswell is pretty darn good for a single Nintendo Direct
one more thing, why would the 3DS even get new games now?
@ClassSonicSatAm I remember especially that the SNES ports on GBA were surrounded by a prodigious amount of awesome exclusives :
_Advance Wars 1 & 2
_TLOZ Minish Cap
_Golden Sun 1&2
_Metroid Fusion
_FF Tactics Advance
_WarioLand 4
_Megaman Zero 1 2 3 & 4
_Megaman ZX 1 & ZX Advent
_Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
_Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
_Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance
_Castlevania Circle of the Moon
etc..etc...
I'm sorry but what is happening with the Switch IS TOTALLY different.
The GBA got every months NEW games and AWESOME ONES + SOME SNES ports... The Switch gets Shovelwares like crazy + multiplats in inferior versions most of the time + smarphones ports + PS1/PS2/PS3/PS4/DS/WiiU ports and a ridiculous amount of NEW exclusives.
So, I understand what you mean with the GBA but Geez, to compare the GBA era with the Switch one... you have balls dude... This has nothing to do with.
Absolutely fantastic direct.
Couldn't care less if people are upset with ported games. Be upset then. Don't play your switch then. I honestly just don't care.
Because I am embracing all these games with open arms, new and otherwise.
Everyone praised Vita when it got ports of Persona 4 and Final Fantasy X and God of War Collection and Ratchet and Clank Trilogy and Jak and Dexter and Sly Cooper and Muramasa and goodness knows how many others. The best games on the entire system were ports! Final Fantasy X and Persona 4. People were literally buying the system for those two games. So I don't want to hear about how bad ports are. Maybe they're bad when it's just a home console release port of a home console game. But when it's a handheld port or hybrid port of a console game, that changes everything.
I could not be happier. Because I want all the best games that exist on a hybrid system where I have the ultimate library.
So be upset, I don't really give a crap. Because I couldn't be happier. That was a killer direct and I honestly don't have time for any other system right now, in fact I may even sell my PS4 and Xbox One because I haven't touch them since MH World (I'll have my PC for future MH games), and I doubt I'm going to touch them for some time. Spiderman and Tomb Raider are still sitting on the floor unopened because I just don't have time for them, and I probably will never have time for them. Too many awesome games on Switch.
It says something when I'd rather be playing ported games on the Switch than new games on other systems, because it's just so much more enjoyable playing excellent games on a hybrid system (and that's the key adjective here- excellent games, because a ported game is almost always an excellent game, and I like playing excellent games). That said, I'm playing new games too. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and Valkyria Chronicles 4 and Pokémon and Smash and Xenoblade 2 Torna and Mega Man 11 and Team Sonic Racing... all on my itinerary for 2018 from now to the end of the year. Fire Emblem and Daemon X Machina, Yoshi, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, DQ Builders 2, Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, SMTV, all on my itinerary for 2019 and beyond.
Killer lineup of new games + killer lineup of best games from other platforms = outstanding complete library.
@TheCurator FF10 can be played on the PS2, PS3, PS Vita and PS4.
Well, every direct gets a downpour of criticism. But I’m happy with this one. There are more games that I want coming out than I can afford to buy or have time to play. I wish people would calm down about ports. If I had my way, every game I have ever loved would be available on Switch. Ports are basically our virtual console. I don’t hear a lot of complaints about the size of the Playstation store’s classic section, but man, Nintendo finally gives us a few Final Fantasy titles which are long overdue, a Mario port and Katamari remaster( I’m very happy about), and people are prophesying doom for Nintendo. Also Nintendo finally is opening the doors a bit wider for indie developers and third parties. Sure, we’re going to get some shovel ware with that. But do we really want to go back to the Wiiu days when nothing was coming in for a good long while, and no third parties were interested, and few indies were allowed? Some really great titles get missed if you close the doors just because you want the store to be completely sanitized of shovelware.
@Crono1973 I only play on Nintendo.
@TheCurator That's sad.
@Crono1973 Sad for you.
Great direct, so much on the way. Looking forward to Yoshi/Luigis Mansion 3 and Animal Crosing for 2019, and Smash for this Christmas along with Sonic Team Racing.
Just need F Zero and a new Wave Race to be announced now...
@TheCurator Sad for me because I play on all platforms instead of just Nintendo platforms or sad for me because I played Final Fantasy X 17 years ago and a few times since then?
@Agramonte
Yeah, I do the same, and I still find it absurd that Nintendo doesn’t allow physical backups of save files. Cloud saves are the only reason I’m getting Switch online, and I shouldn’t even need to do that.
Here's my prediction for what Nintendo's 2019 lineup will look like:
Jan: NSMBUDX + Travis Strikes Again
Feb: Metroid Prime Trilogy HD
Mar: Yoshi's Crafted World
Apr: Fire Emblem Three Houses
May: Daemon X Machina
Jun: Some Mario spin-off (Mario Golf?)
Jul: StarFox Grand Prix
Aug: Town + Some random Wii U port
Sep: Bayonetta 3
Oct: Luigi's Mansion 3 (pre-Halloween release)
Nov: Pokemon Generation 8 (pre-Black Friday release)
Dec: Animal Crossing
Metroid Prime 4 will likely get pushed back to 2020.
So many Final Fantasy titles... and no Tactics among them. This makes me a bit sad - while nonetheless having a great time with my console.
@Cobalt You know the Switch has only been out for a year and a half right? most of those GBA games you mention came out in a 4 year span, as well I remember seeing Mario and Luigi RPG just went the DS came out, I got that instead with Mario 64 DS. besides that RPG the GBA lacked a original Mario game. (even the Mario Kart is basically a SNES remake but with new tracks on top) in alot of cases it was a portable SNES and it had tons of shovelware,
Seeing as it's 2D system, it shouldn't be that hard to port SNES games to it (Link to the past, All of the main SNES Mario games All Stars, SMW, Yoshi's island + SMK, Capcom ported alot of their Snes games over, even something like their Aladdin made it over, all with smaller screen size) Sure the Switch has ports of the Wii U (seeing how that flopped it makes alot of sense to bring it's games on a system that people actually have, plus being able to take previous only home console games on the go helps)
But clearly your not actually looking at the new games it had, again Super Mario Party, Luigi's mansion, Smash Bros 5, Animal Crossing, Yoshi's Crafted world are just a few of the big new games coming along with ports.
It's the same as GBA only alot better. ;P
@ClassSonicSatAm Totally disagree with you.
The Switch is a retro gaming console basically. A retro gaming console with here and there, an exclusive Switch title and the funny thing is when you get an exclusive, you get still a retro gaming stuff here and there, the 8bit Mario in Super Mario Odyssey, the artstyle of Octopath Traveler are examples that pops up just like that.
Even to promote the NEW Online Service, what Nintendo does ? NES Games and even NES Controllers... ^^
Another thing, why the indies are so popular on Switch and sell so good, dunno MAYBEEE because a majority of them looks like retro games, isn't it ?
The Switch is fantastic for somebody who has a small gaming culture because by essence, almost all the games are "new".
An old dude like me, hummm what I see ?
