The next Nintendo console — the Switch 2, Super Switch, whatever you want to call it — may not be releasing until 2025, new rumours are suggesting.
Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe (via VGC) made this claim in the O X do Controle podcast after consulting five different sources, who have all reportedly stated that the follow-up to the hybrid console will be launching in 2025.
In the wake of Lippe's tweet, multiple other outlets are seemingly corroborating this statement. VGC's Andy Robinson has also heard of a 2025 date for the Switch 2, and two developers have confirmed to VGC that they are working on Switch 2 games which are planned to be released in early 2025. They were unable to confirm if that meant the console would be launching at the same time as the games.
As with any rumour, we're taking this with a huge pinch of salt. We won't know anything until Nintendo makes an official announcement.
Eurogamer is another outlet that says it has heard “similar whispers of an early 2025 launch from industry sources this week", though it has also not been able to concretely substantiate them. The outlet has reached out to Nintendo for further comment.
Just yesterday, over on Famiboards, NateTheHate reiterated that a potential 2025 release for the new console could be on the cards and that the only certainty is that "The coming [fiscal year] is the only safe bet, imo". Nintendo's fiscal year is determined by the calendar month it ends in, so that means FY 2025 would run from April 2024 to March 2025.
Of course, we won't know anything until Nintendo is ready to announce the Switch 2 itself. And, at this rate, that could be whenever. Some rumours have been pointing towards a March 2024 reveal (via NateTheHate), but whether that holds up — particularly if the console isn't due out until 2025 — remains to be seen.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has avoided questions about the next console, stating during a conference call following the company's Q3 financial report that the Switch was still the "main business”, reiterating that Nintendo is always researching new hardware/software.
The wait continues, then. As we wait for something — a Direct, a Partner Showcase, etc. — why not share your thoughts on this latest round of rumours in the comments.

If this is correct it will be interesting to see what the Christmas major title will be, if this is a delay there might not be one?
Can we make up our minds already??
Nate the hate is not reliable nor is anyone except Pyoro so until he says something (if he does) im not buying it.
I think that it could come thing year but we will see.
Nah, I don't buy it. Holiday 2024, let's go.
I don't believe this tomato. He's just rolling the dice and seeing what happens. I think holiday 2024 as well but nobody knows for sure.
It could be 2025. 2024 might just be a quiet year for Switch. Nintendo knows they have no competition against Sony & Microsoft's empty lineups
If they have to delay it to get better displays, then I support it! I'm sure I'll buy whatever it is since I'm a massive fan of Nintendo's software, but I really, really want support for VRR and high frame rates!
Hopefully we'll find out what's going on soon...
Now why is a notoriously conservative, Japanese company conducting so much business down in Brazil all of a sudden? Seems to be where all the inside gossip is happening! NLife needs a Brazillian / Portuguese correspondent!
I think it would be a mistake to wait until next year.
I can totally see and understand the release in September so that it can benefit from the holiday season but I feel that the Switch would not be appealing enough to stay in the market for another full year.
Also, Nintendo did not announce any releases for the second semester, I think just a Mario remake, so it would be a great opportunity to announce the new console with a AAA game (Metroid 4!!)
a 2025 release would be a massive mistake by nintendo
Announcing 2024, coming march 2025?
if it is a 2025 release expect a switch 2 announcement in sept 2024 then..
Nintendo needs to just give us some actual confirmed information already. I'm losing my mind over all of these rumors
Enclosed is an actual prototype image and Nintendo needs time to finish the new controller so that ALL of its buttons read "X". To quote Phil Spencer, "we'll port more games your way, but since you refuse to put GamePass on your hardware..."
@johnedwin whose hybrid niche, by then, would be filled by... er, what, instead?
@johnedwin Why? If they aren't ready, why would it be a mistake not launching?
I highly doubt that. There isn't really a major title announced for this year. I know that could still come, but it makes more sense that the big games will launch on the new system.
Lmao. This clown car is just hilarious at this point.
Well I hope it’s not too early in 2025 as generally people tend to be rather skint just after the Christmas period so that would be a mistake
If key first party releases are delayed, so is the launch.
@MarioBrickLayer They could release the next 3D Mario as the big Chrismas title, but they will probably save it for the Switch 2 release (probably cross-gen).
Sick of hearing about it now to be honest.
If the games aren't ready for launch, then a delay to Q1 2025 is the correct choice.
My question is what will come to the current Switch this year then outside of what we already know? Pokemon in November obviously, but what else?
I heard some one say “switch 2 is delayed into 2025, but you can’t delay things that don’t have an original release?
Maybe “industry insider” is just one of those jobs that we as a society are better off without
Honestly I’m in no rush and this move is more environmentally friendly plus anti-over consumption (there’s probably a better description of what I mean).
If this is true, then considering the current 2024 Switch lineup, as is that of both PS5 and XBox, this looks like the weakest year in gaming that I can remember.
FFVII Rebirth and Paper Mario TTYD for me maybe, but nothing else at sight, unless there is a shadow drop for either Silksong and/or Hades II by EOY, but seems unlikely.
Everyone and his Poochie could've predicted the Switch follow-up was coming out at the end of 2024 or Financial Year 2024/25
All these attention seekers with their "whispers" and "sources" are flailing in the dark, hoping to hit the light switch. As blind as the rest of us on the matter.
Wish they'd all just quieten down and wait until official news. We've got plenty of games to play in the meantime. The truth is, they can't, because the clicks are their meal ticket and they got to eat. We do need to be smarter when it comes to swallowing their guesswork though.
At this point I want an announcement just so we can stop having these rumors. Not that that'll stop even more rumors about it, I guess. But at least they'll be new and different ones!
@ScalenePowers You sir, have far too much sense.
I could definitely see a March 2025 release, especially if METROID PRIME IV really does end up being an OG Switch title. Pad it out with some more remasters (F-ZERO GX, PRIME 2/3, ETERNAL DARKNESS) and they could definitely push the Switch through 2024. It would suck, but the dang thing won't stop selling! (I keep holding off on an OLED, man!)
Would be terrible. But, I guess we'll see soon enough.
@GrailUK
You know the internet exists in Brazil too? Nothing's stopping a Brazilian journalist contacting sources all around the world! The modern world is amazing, I know!
It will be released between now and the heat death of the universe. And a bit closer to now, I guess.
Sigh....Nintendo consoles will forever be cursed to use technology 4-5 years behind the curve. So this thing is going to already be grossly outdated a year after it releases. PS6 is going to make it look like a PS3 by comparison 😮💨
It'd be early 2025 for me anyway since this would be sold out and scalped late this year.
That would still be the case next year, but I agree that Nintendo should confirm its existence at a shareholder meeting first, give a proper reveal later this Summer then launch late this year or early the next. If this system really is just a boring upgrade then the games better be good. Like, almost 2017 good. Nintendo should have all the time they need to get it right.
Hmm, not convinced.
I think it will be this year, the OG Switch will then become the best selling console as the discount on it will probably give it a boost in sales
I know im a pest about this (i have ADHD and I get hung up on things...) but THANK YOU for tagging this "Rumour" and not "News!"
its the little things! 😊
Yes… As it should
@GrailUK Maybe because, oh, I don't know, there a massive gaming market in a country of 216 million people loving in Brazil.
I'm not saying I believe these rumors, but I am saying that Brazil is a pretty massive piece of the worldwide gaming market.
I have a prediction about the Switch 2. It going to come out. I'm sure of it.
I think we won't see Switch 2 until the Holidays of next year, November 2025. I can see them even pushing into March 2026 tbh. The Switch is still selling very well (especially considering it's age), and with some price breaks, and a few more strong titles, they could easily hold off. With the industry in the precarious state it's currently in, I see them playing it very safe the next year or two.
@B_Lindz Huge if true!
Early 2025 is fine with me, the Switch has an insane line up of quality games already, a few more Nintendo remasters (Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and F-Zero GX please) and a couple more big 3rd party multi format games and Switch will sail past 150 million consoles by the end of this year.
This article needs proofreading. It's very repetitive.
Aside from that, March 2025 would be a good bet. It worked for Nintendo last time, so why not do it again?
@nin10doom I don’t think we will get anymore strong titles for the switch now since we had most, with the exception of Metroid 4 and remakes I think all devisions at Nintendo are probably busy on the next system.
@Ironcore it's okay if you are in a tush. No shame.
Nope, wont fall for this rumor. This year at least for the Holidays.
And i hope they announce it sooner than later.
Here we go again indeed...
A huge pinch of salt, you say?

You can tell the Nintendo news machine is a bit starved for a cornucopia of news right now. The couple of trailer drops earlier this week clearly weren't enough.
Well if so they best get some Switch games ready
For the second half of 2024 and a big AAA for Christmas.
Because at the moment there really is not much for me on Switch in 2024.
Soz Princess Peach but your game is not for me.
Then again Sony announced no big AAA from them until April 2025.
The series x looking more favourable than both Sony and Nintendo this year. No there is something I didn’t expect to say in 2024.
If we keep on predicting it will eventually come true.
If this is true, 2024 is just going to be awful for gaming, with Sony saying no major releases anytime soon, and Xbox focussing solely on massive multiplats ie COD, Minecraft, etc. My only hope for this year was that we might have a new Nintendo console going into christmas but maybe not, that is sad 😔
Well, there goes one of the last things that had me thinking this would be a good year for me, I guess. sigh
@GrailUK I'm assuming common sense, right? It's a rare element these days. One that is truly needed.
It makes more sense based on what Nintendo is saying and the financials. My guess is the info leaks start peaking around the holidays and they have a direct just for it in March 2025. Also this gives them another year to make it to that top spot.
Nintendo, fill out this year with Wii and Gamecube ports!
Punchout Wii for mii!
and Donkey Kong Country Returns!
Honestly, if it's 2025, then so be it. More time can be a blessing in most instances. Note: mostly.
In the meantime, my Switch OLED will still be my main console even then.
So what if it does? Switch can easily hang in there a while longer. I'm in no hurry to pay 600 + dollars for a system with barely any games.
Well, that means I can enjoy my PS5 games during this year while waiting for next Switch machine get released on next year.
I can’t see it going that long unless they have some major titles for this year.
Switch sales are still going strong and with a lower price point, I can’t see a major gaming company pumping the brakes on that unless the new console will be a possible switch upgrade. So many kids are constantly approaching gaming age and the current switch has been a great way for them to start gaming in a safe environment. I can’t see us current switch owners keeping this momentum going for Nintendo the past few years. That being said, a 2025 release just makes sense. Besides we’re only a direct away from several games possibly releasing this year on switch that would keep momentum going thru 2025. It wouldn’t hurt them to release this year, but I can see the conservative approach in the current gaming industry.
I am content to play games on my Nintendo Switch for the rest of my natural life, honestly. Certainly have enough games. Switch 2 can wait.
Yawn...
If this is true, I wonder what their game's line up will be for the coming months, besides the princess peach game, can't recall anything else. They have ran out of remakes (will seem odd to release any Zelda remake at this point) so if true, what games will be coming?
i guess we'll just have to wait and see!
@Limberlost I completely echo your sentiment. 100 games in my backlog.
what if Nintendo Switch sucessor was delayed to 2025, because the games still was not ready? Nintendo surely want a killer launch
I've always thought early 2025 anyway.
And MP4 as the final big first party release for Switch this October, especially if Switch 2 is backwards compatible.
I expect the first year of Switch 2 to follow a similar pattern to Switch. Mario 3D, Mario Kart 10, Splatoon 4 etc...
Not sure why it is classed as a delay when they have not announced it or its release date either.
Not surprising really. Nintendo likes to launch consoles in the Sept-Nov window AS WELL as the March window. I’ve always suspected it would more likely launch around the March window due to the statements provided by Nintendo officials thus far, aka “we’re focusing on the current Switch this year, or at this time”
Granted they’d say that regardless of possible fall/winter launch as to not possibly detract from sales of current hardware.
With Nintendo ya never truly know. Either way, I’m ready for when it does launch, and as long as it’s got backward compatibility and I don’t loose my current digital catalog in transition, then it’ll be a day one purchase for me.
I totally think that as there really is no rush for them to do that and they should take their time with it to ensure its success
The switch titles have dried up. So eventually Nintendo will be forced to release switch 2. I’m sure they will want all the stars to align though… Wii -> WiiU was a disaster, it had a good launch line up, but the console was muddled and confused most consumers. They need to announce soon and start building the hype and also get the dev kits out there. The release date is actually less important but definitely needs to be in the speculated time frames unless Nintendo is sitting on a AAA title or two
This could be referring to Brazil specifically, remember the Switch didn't launch in Brazil until 2020. Maybe the Switch 2 would release worldwide mid-late this year in most of the world and Brazil in early 2025.
Even if this means a worldwide 2025 release, I wouldn't mind. I have plenty to play on Switch in the meantime and I trust Nintendo to deliver a quality 1 year for Switch 2 if it means "delaying" it.
The Switch is still selling and Nintendo would be fools to pull the plug on it. And why? Because a few nerds on the internet are unhappy with its specs?
Nintendo doesn’t have to rush Switch 2 out. They had an incredible 2023 and Switch is still selling very well, 2025 would be the right time to drop a new console. In the meantime Nintendo, please drop Wind Maker Remastered and Twilight Princes HD. I have been waiting years for them, I’m not getting younger Nintendo!
@LadyCharlie hahaaaa I'm gonna be right 😂
My distributor in Japan has maintained definite 2024 release, but could be as late as November.
I'm keeping an open mind, however he has well placed sources within the Japanese domestic distribution chain.
As always with Nintendo, you need to hear the rumour, then the official word, then after the delays, can you start believing.
this will be 4 YEARS these "sources" and youtube channels claim that the switch 2 will come out "this year" at this point no one knows anything LOL
Duh. Didn't they say the switch was gonna be the primary focus of this year. So that says it's not done yet. Plus they're so close to breaking records with it. Why give up on it now?
There are enough games on the Switch that I could play it for the next 5 years without getting board. Don't get me wrong, I'd be excited for a new console this year, but I am absolutely happy with where I am at. Gaming is a luxury hobby, and I'm glad I get to do it at all.
Eurogamer is backing this up so it’s probably true. On the one hand I understand Nintendo’s desire to want more time to build a stronger launch line up. On the other, I’m imaging this has shuffled the plans for this year completely and we may not see much of any major releases. Just more remakes and smaller titles.
This makes more sense then the rumours saying this year. The Switch is still selling great and they stated Switch will be their main business going into 2024. They have around a 120 million active users. That's a lot of customers to sell their games to. I can't see them abandoning those customers at this point for a new console. I know Nintendo fans want Switch 2 but Nintendo are a business. They want to sell games to as many people as possible. Switch is where it's at for that at the moment.
@-wc- I'm curious how that ties into ADHD, as that sounds more like OCD to me. But I'm diagnosed with the latter, so I'm not as knowledgeable about the former.
It's almost as if these leakers have no idea what they're talking about and are just making stuff up as they go along. But no! That couldn't be.
@Johnny44 yesssssss, ffs. How is this a headline and worth a full conversation. Every. Single. DAY?!? Even if "everyday" is an exaggeration, something about this feels like it's been a headline every week for years now. If there's no Nintendo news... then there's no friggin news! Is there that little other stuff to write about?? This is getting so old.
@Not_Soos
i am diagnosed with ADHD and not OCD, and its definitely possible that i have a blend of both. but i definitely get "hung up" on stuff and ive always attributed it to distractibility, and perfectionism which can be an ADHD trait, and one i definitely suffer from. 👍 it seems that just about any anxiety symptom under the sun can be attributed to ADHD 🙄
i definitely think i have obsessive tendencies, but i dont think i exhibit too many "compulsive" behaviors, so I'm tempted to rule out OCD based on that.
I hope your OCD doesnt bring you too much discomfort. anxiety issues are the pits. (or is it considered an anxiety disorder?)
thanks for asking! your curiosity speaks to your character. ✌️
I said late last year on here, they may well go for PS2 record and look, it may well happen with a 2025 release for Switch 2.
I don’t mean for this to sound like I’m being a jerk but do these guys have anything better to do then make and spread rumors?
I rather it release months before the next big games come out so the system wont be scalped as hard. Give people 3-6 months to get it before the next gen games drop
…weren’t we supposed to get Switch Pro in 2022 or something?
You know, I do have a real appetite for rumors, but these Switch Pro/Switch 2 rumors are kind of annoying. Anyone can just keep pushing out the date until they get a score…
these new rumors are all over youtube on my favorite nintendo youtubers sites.. so depressing last week i was expecting a nintendo direct for this week and a march 2 switch reveal ..
@Thwomp_Stomper what momentum their console sales were down last year and will be down even more this year...
@johnedwin I mentioned that they would have momentum going in 2025 if they had a decent lineup of games announced this year. Though the numbers are down, that doesn’t mean the steam ran out. Naturally sales decline year after year. But they are still pulling in decent numbers in its seventh year. Though they aren’t selling better than ever, they just still have a market for this product at the moment.
As I've said multiple times, March 2025 is when it will release.
I don't even care anymore man. These rumors just make the wait worse because we keep getting pulled in a million different directions. I'm just gonna want to wait until Nintendo actually shows it
@MarioBrickLayer it’s just gonna be zero games. Christmas is canceled
If Nintendo continues delaying the launch of their next-generation Switch then I honestly want them to update the planned chipset. I don't want a delayed 2025 console still utilizing a chipset originally planned for 2021-2022. Performance benchmarks continue to progress exponentially, and at this point I will be very disappointed if Nintendo doesn't utilize this extra time to make their custom chipset the best it can possibly be.
I think they’d be very silly to wait but it would be typical Nintendo. They’ve got previous for delaying system transitions too long. If it means a better system maybe it’s justifiable but they’d better have a really good software line up for the rest of the year.
The March launch worked so well with the Switch that I'd be very surprised if they didn't do the same with Switch 2. The people insisting it needs to come out during the holiday season are even more out of touch than the people who insisted Tears of the Kingdom was delayed to coincide with Switch 2's launch.
Rumors are entertaining…what I’m really waiting for are photo leaks of production parts…that’s definitive proof.
/r/suddenlycaralho
@B_Lindz
It's the 10th largest gaming market reportedly.
@X68000 segata sanshiro, segata sanshiroooo
@johnedwin sounds like a group you should listen to...
it comes when it comes, let's see the Switch 2 and then maybe "Fusion"? Would be a interesting concept to actually use a external console and plug in the Switch 2 to it to make it even better =)
@Truegamer79 I think Super Switch will have thousands of games, in the way Steam Deck had thousands when it launched. But yeah, having an awesome variety of launch games just for Super Switch is a very good idea to kick off the next system right.
@Ulysses agreed. Would be awesome to have frame generation and all kinds of stuff that boosts performance and graphics.
reveal in octobre, blowout in january, launch in march/april.
Game reveals are not necessarily indicative of hardware launch, especially if the big N is keeping things close to the chest
The source of the rumor of course being Nintendo themselves who already announced this 3 years ago.
The greater the delay, the probability of a better specs is increased.
There are too many good games on Switch and not enough time to play them before the next console.
For everything else that is not Starfield and Indiana Jones, get a PS5.
honestly at this point it just feels like everyone's throwing whatever they can at the wall and seeing what sticks. i'm not at all interested at the prospect of a new console but even i think it's probably happening this holiday
Honestly, Nintendo could probably go a full decade with the switch if they wanted to.
@Diowine Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be fire
@-wc- The avatar fits then 😀
@EriXz A remake of “A Link to the Past” would be welcome, and is long overdue.
@BiscuitCrumbsInMyBed Switch launched in March 3rd
March is the traditional month Nintendo launches new consoles so 2025 wouldn’t be too far off the mark.
It's been delayed because no one is releasing games this year so there is nothing to port...
>>2025
It's wild how every analyst and their dog was convinced we would be getting a new Switch by 2020-2021. It's even wilder how these rumours began as far back as freaking 2018. Switch Pro has become the hardware equivalent to the Bloodborne PC port meme.
Nintendo is not going to rush anything to market, because they are in a comfortable position business wise. TOTK was delayed by a year, just to allow for polish, for example. (2022 was quite barren in terms of first-party releases.) Let them take their time to cook up a killer launch year.
And let's not kid ourselves, they could push the release to 2026 and everyone on this site would still be interested. There's no competition.
Well the silver lining is that OG Switch will become the best selling console of all time. Lets wait and see
This is no longer news. We all know there will be another console to replace the Switch, or not. And there are only 4 quarters in a year, so pick one, you have a 25% chance of being right.
But since we are a good way through this first quarter let's forget that and add next year's first quarter into the mix.
Apple Samsung and most other phone manufacturers can introduce a new model each but Nintendo can't provide us with an updated version every five years. I think Nintendo have forgotten their first and foremost a games company and not a film maker or theme park designer. They are not Disney.
I don't think this changes anything to be honest... fiscal year 2025 was always the launch year I had in mind. The great debate as to whether they launch ahead of Christmas or in March will rage on... Switch did OK missing Christmas though?
This is getting ridiculous now. I guess if these rumours are true, then they wouldn't announce it as early as March anymore? I guess we're in for some backtracking from the people who said we'd hear an announcement in March? Or they'll contradict this supposedly new information.
They can delay it to 2026.
I have tons of games waiting to be finished. No rush with Switch 2.
Honestly, I can wait. I just hope they get it right. If they make it backwards compatible with the huge library of physical games I have and manage to refine what the switch already is, it's an easy win for Nintendo.
It's such an open goal for them at the moment. All they need to do is build on what they've set up and keep making good games that don't break the bank financially, while Sony and Microsoft continue to destroy themselves from the inside, chasing magic bean trends that nobody wants.
I would be fine with a March 2025 release. There's no doubt the Switch can maintain enough momentum at this point.
I wonder if with all the rumours of a new PlayStation portable and Microsoft also greenlighting a handheld it has made Nintendo hold back a bit.
If they were to delay the release by 6 - 9 months and make the Switch 2 more powerfull, it may ensure it can hold its own on the ports front.
If it means there will be enough games (And consoles) by that point, i suppose it makes sense to release in 2025, 2024 is looking to be a meagre year though, few first-party releases (And half of those are remakes)
All we have is a partner showcase to look forward to (Which is pretty much an admission of "Yeah, we've got nothing"), oh well, complaining won't change anything...
Don't spend years guessing what the new console is and when it will release. Enjoy what you have now instead. The Switch is a huge success and has a massive, amazing library of games. People are so ready to leave it in the dust, not realising how good we have it, or they aren't willing to go back through it's library and buy anything that isn't brand new.
In the end, the same people who spend 80% of a Nintendo console's lifecycle looking at what comes next end up being the ones who complain that the next gen isn't powerful enough, when they should know it's all about gameplay over graphics with Nintendo.
If this is true, it’s a pretty seismic shift as most assumed 2024 was a given, including myself.
Now if this is indeed true then what does it mean for my beloved Metroid Prime 4? Don’t tell me we have to wait another entire year! 😭
This is just the next pile of stinking of garbage from the same people who 'leaked' 2024, 2023 and 'Switch Pro 2019/2020/2021/2022'. Why don't they just admit they don't know? Why don't people just accept they're not going to get the information from any one but Nintendo?
The Switch will be replaced when it needs to be replaced.
It's forecasted 15.5m for this financial year which is more than most systems peak years, it's more than the 3DS' peak year. In what world does the Switch's successor need to come this year? It doesn't! If you're someone who think something that sells over 10million units in a year needs to be replaced urgently. Sorry but you don't have a clue!
The Gameboy lasted 9 years before the GBC so this isn't even unprecedented and the Switch is doing even better than that.
These stupid rumours only exist to fill the pockets of unscrupulous rumour merchants and attention whore youtubers who need a new shiny to react to, rather than actually play the games. I don't see why regular people are so quick to prematurely bury the Switch.
Got my money ready to go once the preorders go live in whatever year 😂
They can afford to wait, so that's what we're probably going to see them do.
As a brazilian, I would say to not trust these twitter insiders. They're DESPERATE to become relevant in the gaming community so don't take everything serious, only a few of them have trustworthy sources.
@SuperShaun You guys need to understand that Switch's specs are beyond dated at this point and they can't live just with remasters and 3DS ports. Nintendo's own big games are definitely not running on Switch otherwise they would be releasing on the system. Some of you think Nintendo doesn't care about power but sometimes they do.
@Antraxx777
I've thought of changing it, but he is just an ideal projection, haha 😅
cheers
People have been predicting Switch 2 since the Switch first came out.
Its years of rumours, "leaks" and whatnot that leads so many people to disappointment when the actual release and product aren't what these rumours have built them up to be over years.
Just rumours, people. Read and treat them as interesting, sure, but remember not one bit of it is real until Nintendo says it is.
@Brianst0rm
unpopular opinion that ive shared here before, I miss when nintendo games were true AAA titles, and were sometimes the actual envy of psx and xbox ppl.
I realized I needed a gamecube when i saw Melee and Fzero GX 😳 I hadnt seen ANYTHING like that, they were SO polished, with insane attention to detail!
If Nintendo would get onboard with modern tech again, and bring their games up to a standard relative to those days, I believe they would blow people's minds with the first party output, like they used to.
(but people are so in love with the hybrid concept, i guess that can never happen. 🙄 i miss REAL handheld games, too! we used to have it all! 😩)
@-wc- Personally I don't. I was gobsmacked when Sony announced they don't expect to release any new 1st party games until March 2025. 13 months!
It's already bad enough since the HD era Nintendo franchises have to take a back seat with growing development time/costs. Regardless of how good they'd look I don't want there to be like three 1st Party Nintendo games released per year or entire years without releases just so the few games we'd get are detailed enough to see the individual strands of hair in Mario's moustache.
I'd rather Switch 2 games just look like Switch games at 60FPS or higher resolution if it mean's we'll get the same number.
You should stop reporting this BS news. Giving credibility to ass leakers and insiders of anus, makes you lose any credibility you have. Giving leverage to assumptions of people with low level of intelligence, showcases your level of intelligence. I wonder what happened to the people that said that Nintendo was going to release a new Switch since 2017...
Dumb decision to not get it out in time for the holiday period 2024.

"Regardless of how good they'd look I don't want there to be like three 1st Party Nintendo games released per year or entire years without releases just so the few games we'd get are detailed enough to see the individual strands of hair in Mario's moustache."
i think its about what you do with the power.
i generally agree with you, and ive always preferred nintendo's general approach. I was in love with the wii's graphics on a crt, being a souped up gamecube instead of an HD haunted-mannequin-game playin pseudo PC machine. I also love Gunpei Yokoi and his approach to technology in his designs.
what i miss is how SOLID it all felt, and i feel like being at least competitive in tech was part of the magic happening. the hardware was Nintendo Tough, and that seemed to almost stretch into how the software ran on the system. Nintendo games felt more like tangible things in a way, like a really cool toy. You feel CONNECTED to the games because they ran so smoothly, and seemed so copacetic with the hardware they were running on.
this, AND they regularly blew my mind on some technical level, that was rarely about looking photorealistic in any way.
the switch by contrast is laggy, buggy, and often feels slightly not up to the task. i love playing retro and vintage games on it, and some titles do run pretty smoothly, but so much of the time I'm really feeling the compromise of the hybrid design, and im wishing i had some real Nintendo muscle running next to my TV.
and I'd rather play game boy games handheld than AAA console games, personally. I like that the switch kind of gives me both, but honestly id prefer a smaller handheld if they are gonna force the hybrid on me.
"I'd rather Switch 2 games just look like Switch games at 60FPS or higher resolution if it mean's we'll get the same number."
I am tempted to agree with this compromise but I must admit, I want more than just that. 👍 (but I know this is probably what we'll get, and I'll end up getting one, and be happy i did. 🙂)

I dont think every single game needs to have the same amount of polish, in the same way. Mario used to look different in every single game, based on the needs and direction of that games' design. no reason mario party needs to show every fiber and eyelash of every character at all, even if you had the hardware for it. 👍
I'd like to return to that way of thinking, and for me it goes for the handheld experience as well.
Something doesn't smell right here. You want the Console out before games for it comes out. Otherwise what's the point of buying games that have no consoles to play them. You build the Switch 2 base and AAA games will follow. No one can play Switch 2 games on Switch that doesn't work.
these rumors are getting annoying they flip flop way to much.
Here's the thing is coming from Devs that make the game not the Switch hardware maker themselves. That should tell something-they probably told to launch Switch 2 games in 2025 but not the hardware since they aren't the hardware maker. This is part that is lost no China Production leaks have come forward so that means this is only the Software side that is making the rumors about 2025.
Hear me out guys… March 7th, 2025. It’s perfect cuz it’s the Friday right after the Switch’s 8th birthday
@SwitchForce no, it obvious Nintendo want a killer launch, you cant do that unless theres a constant cadence of amazing games after amazing games, they want to provide 3/4 years worth of this killer games.
I am tired of rumors of this system. When Nintendo says what is happening I will care. Cause the rumors are all over the place still.
A 2025 release to acommodate a "big" game lineup? I don't know, it sounds like they had plenty of time since 2021 already to think about tha, maybe even before when considering the Switch Pro plans.
This rumour sounds really unbelievable, and mostly seems to be about Nintendo not being sure about when it will be ready to properly make the 'proper generational transition' they have been very focused recently.
Basically, a delay isn't necessarily confirmed, but could possibly happen based on how they will position it since announcement, and a 'big game linup' is part of that of course.
Still, what matters most is when they will finally unveil it!! There used to be a time when consoles like the Wii U and 3DS were announced around a year and a half before release, but now? Nintendo would be very confident to use that strategy again. It's still the best thing to do for everybody though. GDC is coming soon, and considering how investors reacted to these reports, maybe it's time for Nintendo to unveil the NX (again )
@GrailUK They might have one! Goncalo Lopez is a Brazilian games writer who occasionally contributes to Nintendo Life and Time Extension.
@JJtheTexan Ow, spledid!
Whenever it launches, I'm getting it day one as long as it has at least one big exclusive worth it. There's no doubt in my mind that it will.
@Max_the_German The next 3D Mario game isn't going to be cross gen! It will release exclusively for the Switch sucessor.
The only major Nintendo game coming to the Switch is Metroid Prime 4 which will be cross gen releasing for the Switch and Switch sucessor.
@NinjaNicky The Tegra X1 wasn't 5 years old when the Switch released in 2017 🤡
The Tegra X1 was announced in 2015 by Nvidia and first launched May 2015 in the Nvidia Sheild 👍🏾
Well Nintendo did themselves say 2024 is a year of the switch… or something.
Reading between the lines I reckon we’ll get a reveal of switch 2 late 2024 with a spring 25 release. Similar to OG switch if I remember correctly?
Thank God, I just bought a Steam Deck 😂
For the sake of first party/third party readiness, for the sake of the hardware gimmicks (please have some or else not interested in the console at all). Whatever they have planned.
Who knows with the dev kits if maybe something happened. Who knows with the marketing. Anything is possible rumour or not.
Am I the only one who thinks we won't get the next Switch until March 2027? I am pretty certain Nintendo has said in the past that the Switch could have a 10 year life cycle.
Whatever the case, I'm not expecting any Switch 2 announcements until 2026. If we get it any earlier then fantastic!
I am hoping for a 2025 release, that Atari handheld is going to be $150 this year. So my funds would have to go there.
