We never had a SNES in my family, but it seems odd to me that we've had quite a few users list their Top 5 etc. games and there's been no mention of Street Fighter II. To me, that's the game the SNES is remembered for the most, along with Super Mario Kart. I never played SMW, DKC, ALttP, Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island etc. at the time.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
The SNES was before my time but I've played some of its games on Virtual Console, Switch Online and the SNES Mini (still need to get round to playing Final Fantasy 6 and Secret of Mana on that). I think my top 5 would be:
1. Donkey Kong Country trilogy
2. Yoshi's Island (though I've mainly played the GBA version)
3. Super Metroid
4. Super Mario World
5. Super Mario RPG
Super Castlevania IV is good too, and though I haven't played it much yet I think Wild Guns is an impressive and overlooked game.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Switch Online
@d0nkeyk0ng_jR To be clear, I've played Super Castlevania IV all the way through, it was Wild Guns I was saying I haven't played much yet. But yes, it's a very good game! I was a bit worried it would be frustrating as it was my first game in the series, but the difficulty curve is pretty well judged for the most part. It does get very hard towards the end though; I was glad to have the save states on the SNES Mini.
The best way to play it is probably the first Castlevania collection on Switch, which has save states as well and obviously also includes several other games.

Been playing Super Metroid for the first time recently. What a damn fine game. Can't believe it's taken me this long to give Metroid a proper go as a series.
Hang on to your youthful enthusiasms - you'll be able to use them better when you're older.
@d0nkeyk0ng_jR I can see why, it's very fun. Even when it's at its most challenging it hasn't been stressful like a lot of Metroidvanias can get. I'm almost sad about it because this is part of my own personal project to revisit series that passed me by as a young 'un - Metroid, Zelda, Mega Man, etc. - and I know Super is pretty early in the series so hopefully everything after won't disappoint!

Yoshi's Island
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario All-Stars
