The new golf update for Nintendo Switch Sports is out now after a bit of a delay, and our lovely Video Producer Alex has been checking it out over on our YouTube channel. He's not alone, though, as our brand new Pure Xbox Video Producer Craig "Good Boy" Reid has joined in the fun to see what all the fuss is about with this whole golf thingy.
Alex and Craig showcase a whole bunch of gameplay from the new update and have come away feeling decidedly "whelmed" (Alex's words) with the whole experience. It's golf! For the Nintendo Switch! What more could you ask for? It neither exceeded our expectations nor disappointed us, but as far as updates go, this one is very much exactly what you'd expect and nothing more. If you're excited to play some golf, chances are you're going to have a good deal of fun with this one.
So without further ado, be sure to check out the video below and say a big hello to Craig - the lovely chap will be cranking out delicious video content on the Pure Xbox YouTube channel in due course, so please do make him feel welcome!

This golf update absolutely looks like Golf for Nintendo Switch Sports for the Nintendo Switch family of consoles (not compatible with Nintendo Switch Lite).
So what you’re saying is, golf.
@StarPoint
Is it possible on a Switch Lite though if you just use a joycon? Just playing on a really small screen?
Wii Sports Club Golf is the definitive way to golf on a Nintendo console. Everything else will just not have that save immersive feel of swinging a motion control why looking down at the game pad (not including VR). Truly awesome.
So my Dad has been playing Wii Sports Golf Resort almost obsessively of many, many years. He's tried all the other fancy Golf games out there, and only likes Wii Sports Golf Resort. It's the only on-TV game he plays, he's done all the Trophies including 18 under-par, and the only, only thing he's wanted all these years is more courses for that game.
Am I to understand they've just made this new one but with only the exact same courses available on the original Wii Sports Resort?! No new courses at all? Are they kidding!
Please, please tell me they made some new courses and this is just additional free content. He's only waited 13 years after all!
He's 82 now, and It'll break my heart to tell him there is a new one at long last but it's just slightly better graphics - not new holes he's not played thousands of times before. Please tell me I've misunderstood!
Otherwise I may just have to have a cry on his behalf.
I’ll stick with easy come easy golf. It’s way cheaper and way funner.
@brunojenso
Just tell him there is new way for him to play the original Wii Sports golf courses, they have never looked better, and now he can play against others online if he fancies a challenge.
@KindofaBigDeal He loves how the Wii game looks. so I'm afraid the higher resolution and players actually having arms and legs now won't mean anything to him unfortunately - it's just new courses he's been hoping for all this time.
I'd throw Nintendo big-bucks to be able to give him that. Maybe the online will appeal - I'll ask him about that.
@MeatSauce
Seconding this, never played any of Clap Hanz's previous golf games, but Easy Come Easy Golf is great.
@brunojenso if it's any consolation, maybe you could tell him that the Wii coures are copies of NES Golf courses! Seems Nintendo really like re-using their golf courses!
Wait, Wii Sports Club has 27 holes (9 each in 'Classic', 'Resort', and 'Lakeside') but Switch Sports only has 18, completely skipping the 'Lakeside' courses, and it took Nintendo 6+ months to release this update?
EDIT:
Wait, it does have the Resort 'Special' stages, so that makes 21 total?
EDIT 2:
The update trailer specifically says 21 holes, so that's it, the 9 from NES Golf/Wii Sports, 9 from resort, and 3 from resort Special, completely skipping the Wii U's 9 Lakeside courses (amusingly, the only 9 courses originally designed for an HD system).
@spacely_sprockets Wow - interesting.
Memes aside I’ve enjoyed the rounds I’ve played so far, especially the online knockout mode. I just wish there were more holes so we could have at least two full 18-hole courses.
Its a good version of Golf, that i wish had just a bit more courses.
I will say golf is much harder than I remember it in wii sports, I don't remember caring this much about swing strength and angle as a kid lol
I have my gripes with the content and dlc approach but I do enjoy the game, cant overstate how intuitive and convenient it is to golf and bowl all at once with everyone
@nukatha it’s so weird that they actually make it sound like a festure ‘21 wii sports holes’. It’s just like one full course. Mario golf 3ds had like 10 or something.
And they are all just grassy, so a little bit of shuffling assets around and you have a new one.
Still the 8 player elimination game, not demonstated in the video, does woek rather nice. Giving some excitement to the one player game. … so I guess it will be more replaysd than mario ultra golf..
Th le easy come easy golf probably is better. Sincd i love everybody’s golf on the vita and ps4
@brunojenso Yo dawg just don't tell him.
@Goofonzo That's likely the best answer and solution
@brunojenso have you tried mario golf? I play this with my friends same as wiiu sports golf. Same visuals, same motion controls. New courses.
@Soepkonijn Thank you - I'll look into it. I was watching this for him, but at least initially it seemed a bit luke-warm with the first reviewers. Maybe it's great tho.
