After a fair wait and multiple presentations in Japan, gamers in the West that are looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles X this year were finally treated to a localised broadcast that introduced the title and brought us some of the names and terms as they'll be in English language versions of the game. The Nintendo Treehouse team showed the game off a fair bit, too.
If you missed the live broadcast and want a quick summary, Nintendo of America has uploaded the eight minute showcase that rattles through some key features. If you fancy watching the whole thing, though, that video's available too.
While no release date was given, these videos are certainly worth a watch for any RPG fan with a Wii U.

Summary:
Dolls are now called Skells
Release date in NA is "later this year" but even that was an off the cuff remark and not written on screen
That was about it. Its a JRPG w/ mechs. All stuff we've already known for sbout a year now.
I will watch the 8 minute vid on tv, my 19" monitor cant do this beautiful game justice, but Im sure when Im done my thought will be - I wish they released this yestetday instead, the hour was uneccassary.
Thanks TW for linking to the summary vid, probably wouldnt have found it otherwise.
They would have been better off showing a game close to release like Splatoon. All this showcase did was tell me localization is far from done.
i just can't ever get enough of this game. Was hoping for a release date though. Seems like they're slowly giving NA the same directs that japan got. So at this rate, it may be a while before we get the game.
Nintendo must not have anything else to talk about these days, since there's some new information or videos or screenshots for this game just about every week lately. It's starting to have the opposite effect on me. I'm tired of looking at it, I just want to play it already, but now I'm getting the feeling that when it's finally out, I'll have been burned out on three years of waiting and a year of near-constant information.
Dear Nintendo, I want to play games, not have them showed to me while there is no release date even planned for them.
Does anyone know where the full direct is on youtube? The embedded video isn't working for me
Also this game looks so amazing
@Links_Face https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSgf283mmd4 Here, broadcast starts at 33 minute mark.
@Jenraux
Cheers, I couldn't find it anywhere
This is an epic one. I have been waiting for this game for a long, long, time. I like Mario and all and I know Nintendo doesn't have much coming out in 2015. The mere scope of this game makes me salivate for it more. This is what I have been waiting for a JRPG on a home console. Make no mistake this is what I bought the Wii U for. If they only release Dragon Quest 10 in the west I would be content.
@River3636 Same here, this and Bravely Second are two titles I'm looking forward too.
It'll be delayed until 2016. I'm calling it right now.
The beginning of the story is pretty much Knights of Sidonia, dunno if anyone else has heard of that but its pretty close lol.
this game looks incredible.
@invictus4000 It probably won't, the game is already finished and plan for release in Japan next week. All Nintendo needs to do now is translate everything by the end of the year for the other regions.
Nintendo seems to always think that the internet is split into regions that don't know anything about one another.
They really need to start the global vibe.
Pointless nintendo direct as no release date given. Especially considering it's out in Japan so we could see all the gameplay footage we want soon anyway.
Don't mind game specific directs but this was not a direct, it was a poor showcase. I understand their doing this now before it's released in Japan, but it would have been better to have a better direct of the game much closer to the games release, using the actual west version instead of Japan's version. And unless theirs a release during Nintendo's E3 digital event or whatever it is they are doing this year at e3; It is unlikely to be a 2015 game.
So we saw everything we already know about? No release date (not even a closer window)? And no footage from the Western version? ... Nintendo what the hell are you doing? What was the point of this "direct"? You have been showing off this game since January of 2013... Stop showing us the same thing over and over again and just release it already!
I think we'll see this in 2015. I also think it will be here by early fall. I honestly don't have any real reasons, just a gut feeling.
I'm okay with this though. There's lots of stuff to play and do while we wait.
@Quorthon I'm in the same boat as you, kinda sick of seeing this now, just announce a release date & then shut up about it! No more details! Nintendo really show WAY too much of their games before they release these days, to the point where it has the opposite effect it should!
I see this being out in the late summer. Nintendo needs needs a killer e3 and a surprise release. But this, Devils 3rd, star fox are all going to be by holiday this year. Maybe a metroid surprise??? Please. I can see a new 3ds game or 2 as well. People forget that in order to really play Nintendo, you need both handheld and console. If you do that, like me, other systems don't exist. I play 90% of all gaming on Nintendo, 10% on iPad, pc and PS3.
Does anyone else think the narrator from hyrule warriors sounds like the narrator in the direct?
I hope we get a release date for this year at E3!
This is the only game that could stop me from selling my wii u.... again.
Theres a new Batman comin, a new MGS, and god knows what... just not to our party.
@Quorthon You could just not look at the updates. That worked for me on several games
I agree the Direct was largely pointless, but it is always nice to see additional footage of this beautiful game!
@rjejr "Release date in NA is "later this year" but even that was an off the cuff remark and not written on screen."
Not sure if we're talking about the same video, but the one Bill Trinen opened up on eShop has the date as "2015" at the very end. Still not very specific, of course. And I don't doubt it could receive a delay. Know why? I want this game so damn bad I can taste it.
@erv hahaha, I get that same sense too
We'll most likely get a release date at E3, hoping still for a summer release, or early fall(Basically July-September).
Unfortunately XCX is not a major title for Nintendo like Mario, Zelda, etc. I don't see them relying on it to be their holiday release, they'll want something else like Star Fox, or Yoshi's Woolly World. Even though JRPG's have grown in popularity here in the west which is why we don't always see them come out of Japan. NoA knows RPG's are enjoyable by a select group no matter how wonderful they are their not gonna rely on this like they do with their major titles, so I'm not doubting they'll try to release it before as a summer/early fall title.
Although imo this is the best game Nintendo will be releasing for 2015. I'm gonna love Splatoon to death, and since Zelda is delayed XCX will most definitely be my GotY
@IronMan28 - hmm, I watched the 1 hour plus live stream on Friday and don't recall seeing that on screen at the end, though I may have been distracted by all the Shrek comments. Haven't watched the 8 minute summary yet. "later this year" and "2015" are pretty much "six of one, half dozen of the other" anyway.
I want this, but it's a story driven JRPG so I've always known translation would take awhile, so I've always planned on waiting and waiting.
@TingLz
You guys have another article on XCX almost every day. About the only game anyone talks about on the Wii U, besides Splatoon (which people will stop talking about after non-Nintendo-specific sites illustrate how behind the times it is) is Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Visit Nintendo site, be bombarded by XCX images, videos, news, and chatter. Maybe they should just rename the Wii U the Nintendo Xenoblade.
@Ichiban
There is totally a thing as over-saturation that can have a backlash effect on audiences. This is what happens to pretty much every fad or trend--it gets over-saturated and then people start hating it or deliberately ignoring it. I don't want my excitement for this game to drain away twenty minutes after turning it on because it feels like I've already been through everything in it.
I only want two pieces of information: A release date and whether or not there will be a worthwhile special edition that isn't a pain in the ass "one city exclusive" like that idiotic Mario Kart 8 box.
I'm pretty hyped for this game. A bit worried of how much this is going to take of my time though, since it seems massive. I'll probably be stuck playing this for a long time, hehe.
@Quorthon Nintendo Xenoblade?!?! Code name NX!!! The name of Nintendo's next console confirmed!
On a serious note, there's a reason why XCX is getting so much talk. It's a new franchise that's different from Nintendo's norm of Mairo, Zelda, and Kirby games. It's a fantastic looking RPG and shows the Wii U's potential to those that keep bashing on it.
@DdFixen Well for a completionist there's 300+ hours. Storywise since this is larger than the first Xenoblade game probably 80 hours(60 if you rush) for regular playthrough, and well over 100 if explore, and take on sidequests, etc.
Can't wait for this one. I won't watch this spoiler past the 1st minute though, I want to be surprised when I see the final product. (US version)
...I would like to see some DLC for Mass Effect 3 by now to hold us over. This Sci-Fi Space adventure was awesome and incorporates the Wii U gamepad perfectly.
