Polish horror game developer Bloober Team, known for series like Layers of Fear, The Medium and Konami's upcoming release Silent Hill 2, has announced it's working on a new project for Nintendo platforms.
In an interview earlier this week, Bloober referenced a title called 'Project M' which has a budget "significantly smaller" than its usual projects and is being developed "in cooperation with the world's best game creators for Nintendo platforms". Here's a translation (via ResetEra):
"Project M, although its budget is significantly smaller than the games we are working on at Bloober Team, is extremely important due to our long-term plans. In addition, we are working on it in cooperation with the world's best game creators for Nintendo platforms, so we cannot afford to create just a decent game," Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno told PAP Biznes.
This all times in with Nintendo's disturbing reveal of a new horror game called 'Emio', which it is seemingly publishing. Keep in mind, Bloober hasn't confirmed what exactly 'Project M' is at this stage, but unsurprisingly, there's already been some speculation about the two announcements being linked.
One other part of the same interview has also been highlighted on social media noting how this new Bloober project will appear under its 'Broken Mirror Games' brand (thanks, LuigiBlood):
"The first announcements of Project M will appear later this year, and the title itself will open our second-party portfolio under the Broken Mirror Games brand"
At this stage, there's also been no official confirmation, or anything similar, suggesting the two announcements are related. Notably, Bloober's announcement references "Nintendo platforms" in general, so there's a possibility its project could be targeting Nintendo's Switch "successor" which is scheduled to be announced this fiscal year.
Would you be interested in another Bloober game on the Switch? Let us know in the comments.

Nintendo platformS. Hmmm
Raised my hopes and dashed them quite expertly, if Bloober is working on that Emie project.
Though it is funny they're using the same name as that Smash mod.
Project M. Is that anything like “Other M”?…🤔
@Paulo 3DS dual release
Keep in mind that Bloober stating that Project M is intended to be published under Broken Mirror Games kind of contradicts how Emio (or whatever it ends up being called) is clearly published by Nintendo, as the teaser capped off with their logo (which does not happen for third-party trailers or exclusives outside of the ones they've funded, like the Bayonetta games and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3) and, more importantly, they immediately rolled out a Japanese website for it as well.
I wonder if there's a chance this is Tarsier's new IP. It's hard to say because their teases have been just as vague as the one for Emio, but it would add up well:
I'm going to make a ridiculously wild accusation and say it is for this Emio thing!
I’m very curious as to what Emio is going to be.
I'm not the biggest Elmio fan but the tickle me Elmio was a nice product
i dont think its emio, emio is just technically confirmed to be first party lol
So this could be a Bloober and Nintendo partnership of some kind.
I’m not sure whether EMIO is by them or not.
Whatever EMIO, it is Japanese horror for sure. And if it is directly involving Nintendo, then I am very interested.
Lost interest when it said Bloober Team. No faith in that company at all.
@PikaPhantom Tarsier has been helping fellow Amplifier studio Frame Break on Lightyear Frontier. As well as the many other Amplifier studies that somehow survived the restructuring despite not even having known game pitches (seriously, we have no idea how Silent Games, framebunker, RARE EARTH, Infinite Mana, and Zapper Games are still alive. Hermitage has a trailer by now despite having a two year lag on them.)
@Zeebor15 Interesting, but they absolutely are working on a project of their own: https://x.com/TarsierStudios/status/1638526749385412609?t=Xq2-dcrvL-iUKwH4NTDuQA&s=19
Project M(etroid)
Yeah this isn't for Emio. Emio is most likely first party as @PikaPhantom is claiming, given Nintendo put up an official website for it- which they wouldn't do for a game not published by them or a game that doesn't have stakes with Nintendo in some form or fashion.
Project M, you say?
So Project M will finally be legalized. what a day to be a Smash Bros fan 😃😃😃😃
Emio is the "GABBO, GABBO, GABBO!!" of 2024.😄
Project eMio.
Project M is not Emio and Emio at this point is just a teaser. For all we know Project M could just be The Medium 2 coming to Switch 2 at the same time as Silent Hill 2 is coming, ha so many 2s with these names.
They only claim that Project M will "open our second-party portfolio under the Broken Mirror Games brand" That doesn't necessarily mean "publish". It could still be published by Nintendo and this would serve as the launch for the Broken Mirror Games brand.
A partnership with Nintendo would be the best way to launch any new brand, and every other sign points to this being Emio. Who else are "the world's best game creators for Nintendo platforms" besides Nintendo themselves? Why is this game "extremely important" for their long-term plans? Why would any small publisher risk make a horror game exclusively for a kid-friendly platform? Make a Switch port, sure, but exclusively?
Also, what does "open our second-party portfolio" mean? My understanding of game industry parlance is that a "second party" game is published by a platform manufacturer (e.g. Nintendo) but developed by someone else.
It’s like they are trying so hard to say they are working with Nintendo without mentioning the word Nintendo 😆
@Coalescence Project M is a mod for Brawl.
we cannot afford to create just a decent game.
Funny, they haven't even made a decent game yet nevermind it being better than decent 🤦.
Layers of Fear and LoF2 are considered decent by review scores, and Observer is a near 80 across all platforms, which would indicate a good game….. with Nintendo assistance and input this could honestly be a really good horror/thriller game. Interest is piqued, but I don’t think Project M and Emio are the same game. Could be, but I for some reason have doubts…..
Bloober team, one of the most mediocre developers in the business...
As long as it doesn't end up being the next "Sadness" project by these people lol. Anyone remember that for the Wii, when they were still "Nibris" ?
EDIT: Oh trailer still exists even: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr-YhHdeyDA
I'm also quite skeptical about this being Emio considering the other part of the interview and what others have already mentioned.
Regardless, hope this (also) will be good for those interested - again, it's not for me and that's perfectly fine - and I wouldn't immediately rule it out considering Nintendo is involved!
@Markiemania95 So will this be referred to as "Other Project M"?
So it's an AA game, not related to Emio, right? Or maybe they could be working on it, I like when Nintendo partners with other devs to make new first-party titles (technically second-party if it's not in-house, but Nintendo still publishes them and owns the IP)
It will definitely look best on the Switch 2, these games rely heavily on detail. It would also be interesting to see if the Medium could run there too.
@Eel I'm holding out hope for an official Famicom demake
Nintendo sure has taken an interest to horror games lately.
